Celtics vs. Pistons Preview
May 19, 2008
Surprisingly the Celtics finally got past the Cavs. Now they have to look ahead to a matchup against the Detroit Pistons. It should be a decent series as long as both teams can put the ball in the hoop. I am not trying to see a bunch of 70 and 80 point games.
Detroit will win this series for several reasons, they are deeper, they are more experienced, they have an edge at the point guard position, they have several bodies that can guard KG, they can put length on Paul Pierce, they can win on the road, and they are a good defensive team.
Boston struggled to get past Atlanta and Cleveland so their is no way they can get past a much better Pistons team.
Dream Matchups
May 15, 2008
Look at the teams we have left in the playoffs and think about the possible matchups we could see in the conference finals or NBA finals. We could see Chris Paul vs. DWill in the Western Conference Finals. We could see a rematch of the Pistons vs. Cavs. We could see the new look Lakers vs. the veteran Spurs. We could see Lakers vs. New Orleans, the MVP versus the MVP runner up.
The two matchups that are probably on every fans list would be Lakers vs. Cavs aka Kobe vs. Lebron, and Lakers vs. Celtics, the best in the East vs. the best in the West. This playoffs could end up being one of the best in years.
Teams Struggling On The Road
May 13, 2008
This playoffs almost every NBA team is struggling on the road. I am a fan that thinks home court shouldn’t make a big difference in how a team plays but it obviously does. Teams are scoring a lot a home and throwing up bricks on the road, teams are winning by 30 at home and losing by 30 on the road, people that are supposed to be stars are folding on the road.
One team in particular, Boston, is really showing their weakness on the road. People were sweating them when they killed the West on a Western road trip during the regular season but fans are seeing the real Celtics.
If the underdogs in these last few series want to advance they better step it up and play on the road like they play at home.
Cavs vs. Celtics Preview
May 5, 2008
The Celtics were finally able to get the Hawks off of their back and advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs. They start their series tomorrow night in Boston.
Cleveland has to be confident going into the series for several reasons. One reason is that they have LeBron James, Wally and Gibson are contributing, they can win on the road, and they have big guys like Big Z and Joe Smith that can shoot.
In the Hawks/Celtics series the Celtics tried to take the ball out of Joe Johnson’s hands, forcing others to shoot the ball. If they try that strategy on the Cavs guys like Wally, Gibson, and Big Z will kill them. If the Celtics want to knock off the Cavs they have to play better on the road, they have to play better defense, especially in the fourth quarter, and they have to execute on offense at the ends of games. If those 3 things happen the Celtics can get rid of the Cavs in 5 games. If not the Cavs can pull off the upset in 7 games.
Second Round Match Ups Preview
May 2, 2008
Two match ups for the second round of the NBA playoffs are set. The Detroit Pistons will face the Orlando Magic and the New Orleans Hornets will face the San Antonio Spurs.
The Pistons are a deep team but they cannot try to play around with the Magic like they did with the Sixers. The Magic have a beast in the middle and tons of shooters on the outside. I am sure the defense will be focused stopping Howard from being able to pass so easily out of the double teams. Swarming defense on Howard could lead to a ton of turnovers and running opportunities for the Pistons. Pistons should get this in 6 games.
In the San Antonio versus New Orleans series it is going to be a battle in the paint and on the perimeter. Parker and Paul are to good point guards that had great first rounds, while Duncan has to battle the offensive minded David West and the extremely active Chandler in the post. The Spurs are very consistent and even when you think they can lose they always end up winning. I think the series will go seven games with the Spurs winning.
