Lakers Win Series And Are Waiting On Boston Or Detroit
May 30, 2008
The Lakers beat the Spurs at home last night to advance to the NBA Finals. They were down by 17 points early but were able to comeback. Kobe had 39 points including 17 of the Lakers 36 points in the fourth quarter.
The Laker will play either the Pistons or Celtics in the Finals.
Lakers Go Up 3-1 On A No Call At The End Of The Game
May 28, 2008
The Lakers were up two points with 2 seconds to go. Brent Barry caught the ball faked got Derek Fisher in the air and then Barry took a dribble and tried to throw the shot up at the last second hoping to get free throws but no call was made.
The Lakers are lucky because they did not execute well down the stretch and suprisingly of of the biggest mistakes was made by Kobe. The Lakers were up 4 with 32 seconds left in the game and Kobe rushed down court and tried to take a layup over 3 guys instead of holding the basketball. When he missed the Spurs got the rebound and rushed down court for a layup cutting the lead to two points. The Lakers had another possession to score on but they couldn’t and that left the final 2 seconds for the Spurs where the refs decided not to blow the whistle.
Lakers vs. Spurs, Matchup Problems For Both Teams
May 20, 2008
The Lakers and Spurs will meet in the Western conference finals and it should be a great series. One of the things that stands out the most about the series are the matchups. I look at the Lakers and say who will guard Ginobili? Kobe can guard him but that would get him in foul trouble. Lamar can try his best but he would end up getting beat or getting in foul trouble too. You also have to wonder who will guard Duncan. Radmonovic is not a good defender and Pau or Lamar would get in foul trouble trying to cover Duncan and the Lakers don’t want that. One thing the Lakers could do is start Turiaf instead of Radmanovic but I doubt they would do that.
Now, look at the Spurs side you have to wonder who will guard Lamar. I am sure the Spurs will put Bowen on Kobe. If Ginobili is starting that would put him on Odom which would be a tough cover for him. The Spurs could as put Ginobili on Radmanovic and put Duncan on Odom but Odom would abuse Duncan just like he did Boozer.
It will be very interesting to see how both teams matchup defensively in game one.
Second Round Match Ups Preview
May 2, 2008
Two match ups for the second round of the NBA playoffs are set. The Detroit Pistons will face the Orlando Magic and the New Orleans Hornets will face the San Antonio Spurs.
The Pistons are a deep team but they cannot try to play around with the Magic like they did with the Sixers. The Magic have a beast in the middle and tons of shooters on the outside. I am sure the defense will be focused stopping Howard from being able to pass so easily out of the double teams. Swarming defense on Howard could lead to a ton of turnovers and running opportunities for the Pistons. Pistons should get this in 6 games.
In the San Antonio versus New Orleans series it is going to be a battle in the paint and on the perimeter. Parker and Paul are to good point guards that had great first rounds, while Duncan has to battle the offensive minded David West and the extremely active Chandler in the post. The Spurs are very consistent and even when you think they can lose they always end up winning. I think the series will go seven games with the Spurs winning.
