Strengths: One of the purest point guards to come around in a while His vision and ability to deliver precise passes make him the ultimate distributor Has good size for the position, allowing him to survey the court over top of defenses A great and natural feel for the game allows him to see plays before they materialize, keeping him one step ahead of the opposition He is extremely good at maintaining his composure when operating in the pick and roll, he does not panic when the defense converges, but rather shows patience and waits to make his reads Loves to split the hedge on a high ball screen to get into the paint Has a wide repertoire of moves off the dribble Knows how to incorporate head, pass and shot fakes to get defenders off balance and to keep them guessing Uses change of speed and direction extremely well, always mixing up the moves and staying unpredictable His shot has come a long way in the last year or so, even to the point where he has become a serious threat from the outside Defesively, he plays with a lot of energy and puts in a great effort to put pressure on the opposing ball handlers Quick hands and terrific anticipation allow him to get his hands on a lot of balls His game is mature beyond his years due to the fact that he has played on the top senior level for a long time He has been on the draft radar for some years and has been able to maintain a fairly high level of play Has shown that he can perform on a big stage by being a key member of the Spanish National team in the Olympics

Weaknesses: Has good speed but lacks the great explosiveness that top tier point guards in the league possses He is forced to shoot high amount of attempts in the paint because his marginal leaping ability makes it difficult for him to finish around the basket Heavily depends on the pick and roll to create his opportunities and does not show a great ability to break down defenders in ISO situations Has gotten better at taking whats open, but his pass first mentality still gets him into trouble as he passes up open shots His jumper is still not a finished product by any means Because it takes him a bit to get his feet set, and his release point is fairly low he still looks like a set shooter Has battled some injuries over the last year, which raises the question of durability and whether he will be able to handle the rigors of an 82 game season His game has been up and down this season after coming back from his injury (Had a better overall season last year) His performance on the international scene does not guarantee his game will translate well to the NBA Is also a bit of a risk because of his high buyout and because he has hinted at staying overseas if he doesnt go to the right team

Biography:
North Carolina) is an American professional basketball player currently with the Seattle SuperSonics of the National Basketball Association. He attended Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida and the University of Georgia. He is the son of former 13-year NBA veteran Gerald Wilkins and nephew of nine-time NBA All-star Dominique Wilkins. If there was NBA royalty, Sonics swingman Damien Wilkins would come from a noble line. Wilkins’ father, Gerald, played 14 years in the NBA with five teams and was a long-time starter. His uncle, Dominique (a.k.a. the Human Highlight Film), was a nine-time All-Star and is the Atlanta Hawks all-time leading scorer. After a quick start to his NCAA career at North Carolina State, Damien entered the 2001 NBA Draft but decided to withdraw and transfer to Georgia. There, he had two solid but unspectacular seasons and went undrafted in 2004. A renewed diligence in the weight room helped Wilkins have a big summer league and shine in preseason action for the Sonics, allowing him to make the team. After biding his time and working after practice, Wilkins got his shot in late March of his rookie season and came through, scoring a career-high 21 points, including the game-winning basket, at Portland on March 24. Wilkins would start seven games the rest of the way as the Sonics battled injuries. He proved himself in the playoffs when injuries struck again, finishing with 15 points, six rebounds and five steals in the Sonics Game 4 win over San Antonio. A restricted free agent in the summer of 2005, Wilkins received an offer from the Minnesota Timberwolves that the Sonics chose to match. In the 2007 season, the departure of Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen gave way to start Damien Wilkins. On November 16, 2007 he scored a career high 41 point and grabbed 9 rebounds in a game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Bryant scores 35 as Lakers beat Jazz 111-110
Fisher comes haunts the Jazz, Lakers on verge of sweep.

Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher hit back-to-back 3-pointers during an 8-2 run in the final minute and the Lakers held on for a 111-110 victory over the Utah Jazz that put Los Angeles on the verge of clinching the Western Conference playoff series.

The Jazz had two chances to win it in the final 4 seconds, but Deron Williams missed from the top of the key and Wesley Matthews’ tip just before the buzzer bounced off the rim.

Bryant finished with 35 points and Fisher scored 20 for the Lakers, who can close out the four-game sweep with a win Monday night in Game 4. Pau Gasol added 14 points and 17 rebounds for Los Angeles.

Williams scored 28 and Kyle Korver added a career playoff-high 23 points for the Jazz.

“That’s what I live for,” Fisher said. “It’s always good when they go down and we win.”

“When we run screen-and-roll with Kobe (Bryant) and Pau (Gasol), it’s tough to make a decision,” he said. “I mean, the best player in the game is coming off a screen. Pau is in a handful of the best players in the world, setting the screen. So for the rest of us, it’s our job to be ready to take an opportunity when it is there.”

“I thought it was good,” Matthews said. “I didn’t know how much time was left on the clock, so it was a quick tip. I thought I got enough of the ball to put it in the hole.”

“He’s done that his whole career,” said Utah forward Carlos Boozer. “He’s a playoff player.”

“We had good looks and good opportunities and our shots fell at the right time,” Bryant said.

“That was quite a game,” Jackson said. “It was fun for fans to watch. It wasn’t great for coaches to watch. Unexpected guys (Artest and Fisher) stepped up tonight, guys we know can deliver.”

Question marks surrounding Kobe Bryant’s knee were put to rest. So were the doubts circling the Lakers bench.

After seven days of rest, the Lakers had an emphatic answer to those uncertainties in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.

Behind Bryant’s explosive outing and the resurgence of Lamar Odom, the Lakers handed the Suns a 128-107 beatdown Monday at Staples Center.

“This was surprising for us,” said Lakers coach Phil Jackson of the lopsided victory, adding later, “Maybe we’ve peaked.”

Despite being plagued by injuries all season and taking an entire week off from practice, Bryant has been having arguably the best postseason of his career.

Bryant scored a game-high 40 points, including a 21-point surge in the third quarter. He went 13-for-23 from the field and 11-for-12 from the line.

This performance marked the first time in his 14 seasons he has scored 30 or more points in six straight playoff contests. His previous high was five (2009, 2008, 2003). Possibly more impressive has been the fact Bryant has been shooting a blistering 52.2 percent during this span.

The key: “Old age,” Bryant joked.

“Now I feel like I have two legs to play with. I have better balance on my shot, and shots aren’t going short anymore.”

Nevertheless, Bryant knew not to look into the Suns’ struggles after just one game.

“To be honest,” Bryant said. “They missed a lot of shots they’ve made this entire postseason….We’ve got to do a much better job in Game 2 and the rest of the series.”

The Lakers took a page out of the Suns run-and-gun style book. They simply ran the Suns, who still shot 49.4 percent, off the court.

Bryant seemingly carried the Lakers from the start of the game to the finish, but left his mark in the third period, with one play standing out in particular.

After being pushed by Suns center Channing Frye, Bryant still managed to lay in a finger-roll. When he landed, he mouthed “yeah, yeah” as he nodded his head.

Bryant tallied 21 of the team’s 31 points in the period. He nearly outscored Phoenix, which had 24, by himself. Bryant shrugged off the physical play of Grant Hill and, for the most part, Jared Dudley was ineffective.

“He was more aggressive and assertive than I have seen on film,” Dudley said.

“It’s important in Game 1 to show them that this is going to be a fight,” Bryant said.

Grant Hill said it best at the end of the game when it came to figuring out Bryant.

“[Kobe] is the best player in the game,” Hill said. “I don’t know exactly what we did wrong or right tonight.”
