Atlanta Hawks 2008-2009 Season Preview
September 5, 2008
The Atlanta Hawks made it to the playoffs with a measley 37-45 record but they were able to give the Boston Celtics a hell of a fight in the first round. In fact the put up a better fight than the LA Lakers did in the finals.
We all know that the Hawks lost Josh Childress which is a blow to the team but they have a few good things to look forward to. Some positives of the upcoming season is that Mike Bibby will get a training camp with the team. Hopefully starting the season with the Hawks will help him fit in and play better than he did late last season.
Another thing to look forward to is Josh Smith getting better. Josh Smith has increased his scoring average every year he has been in the NBA. It is a good chance that that trend will continue this season.
Al Horford will also get better. He averaged nearly a 10-10 last season. Expect him to average a 15 and 10 this season.
Marvin Williams will get better. A lot of people look at him as the loser that the Hawks took over Chris Paul but the guy has gotten better each season he has been in the NBA. He averaged nearly 15 points and 6 boards per game last season.
The Hawks have not made any big additions this offseason except for adding Mo Evans to replace Childress. They have to depend on players getting better to get them to the playoffs and I don’t think that will be enough.
Celtics Are In Trouble
May 3, 2008
The Boston Celtics were supposedly an elite team that was supposed to shut down the Atlanta Hawks and send them home in four games. Things have not turned out as most people thought. The Celtics and Hawks are tied up 3 games to 3 and one of them will be going home on Sunday.
All of the pressure is on the Boston Celtics. If the Celtics lose this game 7 this will be the biggest upset in NBA playoff history. Losing to a team with only 37 wins.
I am sure most people around the country are rooting for the Hawks just like they were rooting for the Warriors last year. The Hawks have to step up and play on the road like they do at home, if the do they will be headed to the second round.
