2010 NBA Western Conference Finals – Los Angeles Lakers vs Phoenix Suns – Game 2 – Highlights
Lakers take a 2-0 lead over the Suns in the best of seven Western Conference Finals series.
Kobe Bryant’s 6 straight 30 point game streak came to an end but the Lakers winning streak continued. Bryant played the facilitator role in this game with an career high 13 assists. The reason Kobe was more of a decoy this game was that Phoenix decided to get the ball out of his hands so he wouldn’t rip the Suns D apart like he did Monday.
Gasol had a huge 29 point, 9 rebound effort as he dominated the Suns much smaller frontline and pretty much shut up Amare Stoudamire who said on his twitter he dominated Gasol in past years. Especially in the 4th quarter he got a couple of and 1′s and easy layups.
Odom had another great game with 17 points, and 9 rebounds and he too proved it was all skill and no luck. Odom clearly showed his advantage in transition and off the dribble, the Suns have no one that can stay in front of him.
Bynum also played well in limited minutes with 13 points and 7 boards and showed he can be productive even with the knee injury and the 3 day layoff will certainly help him and Kobe who are both are battling injuries.
Farmar was big in this game he hit three 3 points in this game and pushed the pace while he was in the game to get L.A. easy buckets on the break.
The bench nearly gave up the lead in the 2nd quarter but play much better in the 4th quarter.
The series resumes Sunday in Phoenix. (8:30 ET, TNT)

2010 NBA Western Conference Finals – Game 1 – Los Angeles Lakers vs Phoenix Suns – Highlights
LOS ANGELES — Even on a balky knee, Kobe Bryant had no problem giving the Los Angeles Lakers an early leg up in the Western Conference finals.
Bryant scored 40 points, Lamar Odom added 19 points and 19 rebounds, and the Lakers opened the series with ruthless offensive efficiency in a 128-107 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Monday night.
Pau Gasol had 21 points for the top-seeded Lakers, who won their seventh straight playoff game and snapped the Suns’ six-game streak with a phenomenal second half, highlighted by Bryant’s 21-point third quarter following an off-week during which he barely stepped on the Lakers’ practice court to rest his litany of minor injuries.
“He’s the best scorer in the league,” said Odom, who set a career playoff high for rebounds in his most assertive game of the current postseason. “Drives, fadeaways with his back to the basket, inside-outside, with his left hand. Time off is exactly what he needed.”
The defending NBA champions beat the third-seeded Suns at their own uptempo game when necessary, fluidly running the court to set up baskets for Bryant in his sixth straight 30-point game. Bryant then rested his sore knee for most of the fourth quarter in the 11th 40-point game of his playoff career.
“They played great, one of the best games I’ve seen them play in the playoffs this season,” Suns coach Alvin Gentry said. “Kobe kind of controlled the whole game. I thought we could have withstood the game that he had … but when he’s making his jumper like that, there’s not a whole lot you can do about it.”
Game 2 is Wednesday night at Staples Center.
Amare Stoudemire scored 23 points and Steve Nash had 13 points and 13 assists for the Suns, who hadn’t lost since April 24. Robin Lopez started at center and scored 14 points in his playoff debut, but Phoenix couldn’t keep up with the champs in its first conference finals appearance since 2006.
“They’re probably going to continue to be taller than us as the series goes on, so we’ve got to … make everything as tough as possible,” said Nash, whose injured eye didn’t bother him. “We played hard, but we didn’t make enough shots, and we had a few too many breakdowns.”
Both teams swept their second-round series to earn their third postseason date in five years, but the Lakers didn’t allow a week off to affect their remarkable execution.
Bryant alternated jumpers and strong drives while Los Angeles pulled away. His 13-for-23 shooting performance included three 3-pointers and 11 free throws with just one miss.
“Kobe carried a lot of the offense tonight, no doubt,” Lakers coach Phil Jackson said.
Bryant’s teammates were nearly as impressive despite a game offensive effort by the Suns, who ran into the same height problems faced by Utah and Oklahoma City earlier in the Lakers’ playoff run. Los Angeles made 58 percent of its shots and committed just nine turnovers in Game 1 — its third straight single-digit turnover game — while outrebounding the smaller Suns 42-34.
The Suns sent Bryant, Odom and the Lakers home for the summer in 2006 and 2007, and Los Angeles’ veterans acknowledged a measure of revenge in their minds — as long as they’re healthy enough to do it.
Jackson revealed before the game that Bryant’s right knee was drained “a while ago,” moving it to the top of the injury list for last season’s NBA finals MVP. But Bryant didn’t show any obvious effects from his injuries, and he even bounced back up after hitting his head on Jason Richardson’s knee during a drive in the first quarter.
The game began at the Suns’ favored tempo, with both clubs sprinting up and down for quick baskets. The Lakers rallied from an early deficit with 11 consecutive points, and their 35 first-quarter points — capped by a dynamic baseline jumper by Bryant over two defenders at the buzzer — were Los Angeles’ most in any quarter of the playoffs.
Game 2 is Wednesday in L.A. at 9:00 pm ET on TNT.

Shaq Sidelined with Thumb Injury
The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently 44-16. That’s first in the Eastern Conference right now. Their pursuit of an NBA title just took a little bit of a step back with the following news:
Shaquille O’Neal will miss somewhere between 6-8 weeks with a right thumb injury. He already had successful surgery on said thumb. It was injured during a game at Boston as Boston’s Glen “Big Baby” Davis rejected a shot from the Big Aristotle.
Since the Cavaliers are in this position in the Eastern Conference, I don’t think it’ll have that much impact in the scheme of things as far as the regular season is concerned. But the Cavs brought Shaq in as an answer to the “new” Superman, Dwight Howard. As great as LeBron James is, we haven’t yet seen him win a championship by himself, basically. If the Eastern Conference Final is Cavs vs. Magic as it was last year and there’s no Shaq out there for the Cavs, #12 will be able to do everything and anything he wants to either Anderson Varejao or J.J. Hickson.
This would be a bigger injury if Shaq wasn’t in his late 30s and essentially at the end of his career. Either this year or next will be the last year of his Hall of Fame career. His stats for this year are 12 points and 6.7 rebounds in a fairly sizable amount of games.
Jamario Moon had remarked to the media that after this, Shaq felt he let down the team.
But later we heard of these remarks from The Big Tweeter:
“Will be out for a min but when I return it is on. Win da ring for da king! Luv my team, Cavs baby!”
Remember, Zydrunas Ilgauskas is no longer with Cleveland after the trade to Washington for Antawn Jamison who will be a factor down the stretch for Cleveland. Big Z saw a decreased role anyway because of O’Neal. Now his services aren’t even needed anymore by Washington. The Wiz almost immediately bought out his contract. Now he has to wait about 2 weeks before he can sign with any team by NBA regulations.
As far the overall Eastern Conference picture is concerned–I don’t think Cleveland has much to be concerned about. The team that should be panicking is the Boston Celtics. I’m sorry but there is no excuse for losing to the 4 win New Jersey Nets ON YOUR OWN HOME COURT! It’s something that’s wrong with them. Whether it’s injuries or age, it’s something. They’re under .500 in their last 29 or 30 games. Right now, a team would lick their chops to face them in the first round of the playoffs.
