Ricky Rubio – 2009 NBA Draft
5. Minnesota Timberwolves – Ricky Rubio 6-5 190 PG Spain Intl.
# Birthday: 10/21/90
# NBA Position: Point Guard
# Class: International
# Ht: 6-5
# Wt: 190
# Team: DKV Joventut
# Hometown: El Masnou, Spain
NBA Comparison: Jose Calderon/Steve Nash
Strengths: One of the purest point guards to come around in a while His vision and ability to deliver precise passes make him the ultimate distributor Has good size for the position, allowing him to survey the court over top of defenses A great and natural feel for the game allows him to see plays before they materialize, keeping him one step ahead of the opposition He is extremely good at maintaining his composure when operating in the pick and roll, he does not panic when the defense converges, but rather shows patience and waits to make his reads Loves to split the hedge on a high ball screen to get into the paint Has a wide repertoire of moves off the dribble Knows how to incorporate head, pass and shot fakes to get defenders off balance and to keep them guessing Uses change of speed and direction extremely well, always mixing up the moves and staying unpredictable His shot has come a long way in the last year or so, even to the point where he has become a serious threat from the outside Defesively, he plays with a lot of energy and puts in a great effort to put pressure on the opposing ball handlers Quick hands and terrific anticipation allow him to get his hands on a lot of balls His game is mature beyond his years due to the fact that he has played on the top senior level for a long time He has been on the draft radar for some years and has been able to maintain a fairly high level of play Has shown that he can perform on a big stage by being a key member of the Spanish National team in the Olympics
Weaknesses: Has good speed but lacks the great explosiveness that top tier point guards in the league possses He is forced to shoot high amount of attempts in the paint because his marginal leaping ability makes it difficult for him to finish around the basket Heavily depends on the pick and roll to create his opportunities and does not show a great ability to break down defenders in ISO situations Has gotten better at taking whats open, but his pass first mentality still gets him into trouble as he passes up open shots His jumper is still not a finished product by any means Because it takes him a bit to get his feet set, and his release point is fairly low he still looks like a set shooter Has battled some injuries over the last year, which raises the question of durability and whether he will be able to handle the rigors of an 82 game season His game has been up and down this season after coming back from his injury (Had a better overall season last year) His performance on the international scene does not guarantee his game will translate well to the NBA Is also a bit of a risk because of his high buyout and because he has hinted at staying overseas if he doesnt go to the right team

Michael Beasley Scores Career High vs Grizzlies 19-02-10 [30 Points / Complete Highlights]
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (NBA.com exclusive) — Dwyane Wade passed his walking boot from teammate to teammate in the Heat locker room at FedExForum on Friday night. Udonis Haslem signed his name, then Rafer Alston and so on down the line, each man using a black Sharpie on Wade’s keepsake.
Michael Beasley was one of the last teammates to emerge from the shower, and he never noticed Wade when he tried to hand him the boot.
“He broke his career high,” Quentin Richardson said, “so he don’t want to sign it!”
It was all in good fun for the Heat, whose 100-87 double-overtime victory over the Grizzlies was the product of some unexpected but much-needed individual performances. Miami (29-27) extended its winning streak to a season-best five games.
“Whether you’re up in the game or down, and whether it’s regulation or overtime, you have to have some mental toughness to stay in the moment,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “And I thought we did a very good job of doing that. I don’t even know where to begin with the guys.”
Why not start with Beasley? With Wade sidelined with a left calf strain, the second-year forward busted loose for a career-high 30 points on 13-of-25 shooting and eight rebounds, dominating Zach Randolph, the Grizzlies’ All-Star forward, for long stretches.
Beasley, often criticized for not playing to his potential, was as quiet during the pre-game chalk talk as Spoelstra could recall. Spoelstra joked that he would have to show Beasley the film of the session so he could replicate it before the Heat visits the Mavericks on Saturday.
“I like seeing that progress,” Spoelstra said. “He’s the 11th youngest player in the league and everyone expects it to happen right now. But there’s a growth process. And he knows that with Dwayne out, there’s going to be more opportunities. His body language out there is great.”
Beasley got help from another unlikely source. Mario Chalmers, who had missed the last nine games with a thumb injury, played 41 minutes off the bench and finished with 18 points (4-of-7 from 3-point range), seven rebounds and four assists.
“I was feeling good,” Chalmers said. “I got some shots up before the game, so it was just a good feeling.
And then there was Haslem, who had two points through regulation and the first overtime. In the second overtime, with Jermaine O’Neal fouled out, Haslem had eight points as Miami outscored Memphis, 15-2.
“I spent some time on the bench observing the game,” he said. “And when I got in, I knew exactly what I needed to bring. I just tried to be aggressive.”
It was a heartbreaker for Memphis (27-27), which is slipping from the highly competitive Western Conference playoff picture.
The Grizzlies had held a morning press conference to introduce Ronnie Brewer, a versatile wing acquired at the trade deadline from the Utah Jazz, and he was expected to give the Grizzlies’ thin bench some pop. Instead, he went down early in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury. He left for the locker room in a wheelchair and is scheduled for an MRI on Saturday morning. His status is unknown.
But despite his injury and despite missing 21 of their first 25 shots, the Grizzlies hung around and actually took their first lead with 34.4 seconds left in regulation on a floater in the lane from point guard Mike Conley. Beasley answered with a mid-range jumper that tied things at 76 with 23.8 seconds left, then the Grizzlies’ Rudy Gay (15 points, 6-of-19 shooting) and O’Neal (18 points) missed potential game-winners.
And after the Grizzlies’ O.J. Mayo (17 points) buried a 3-pointer in the right corner to push the Grizzlies ahead 85-83 late in overtime, Chalmers nailed a runner off the glass that sent the game to a second overtime, which the Heat dominated.
“I think we just ran out of gas,” said Grizzlies center Marc Gasol, who finished with a team-high 22 points. “We didn’t do a great job of attacking or finding the open shots. And they got easy shots with Haslem in the game.”
Spoelstra said he was pleased with Beasley’s development, in particular. His performance featured a nice mix of post moves and mid-range jumpers, and it was clear that Beasley approached the game with something to prove. He indicated that he has been frustrated with all the criticism, including some offered by Charles Barkley, who earlier this season referred to Wade’s supporting cast as a bunch of “Tito Jacksons.”
“It kind of shuts everyone up,” Beasley said. “It don’t stop here, but this is the kind of win that feels good for everybody. And ask Charles Barkley if he knows my name. Kept calling us ‘Tito.’ I think we’re just trying to show that we do have names.”

Christian Eyenga – 2009 NBA Draft
30. Cleveland Cavaliers – Christian Eyenga 6-6 210 SG/SF Congo Intl.
* Birthday: 6/22/89
* NBA Position: SG/SF
* Class: International
* Ht: 6-6
* Wt: 210
* Team: DKV Joventut
Strengths: He has played in DKV Joventut for their second team (PRAT – LEB League) most of the year, also had a couple of games in Euroleague and ACB (few minutes) … Athletic and long player with great all-around physical ability … Plays SF most of the time in PRAT -LEB League … Eyenga has improved his overall game tremendously (offensively and defensively) in the past year … His basketball IQ and understanding of the game has risen … Now he is a better decision maker with the ball on the floor and attacks the basket much more (used to be raw) … Has great elevation when going for rebounds or alley-oop situations (he can really get up there) … Eyenga has developed solid shooting mechanics with a nice follow-through and good elevation on his jump-shot; last year he looked like he couldnt shoot the ball at all and now is looking very good at times (PRATA-LEB League). Possesses solid outside range out to 3pt (34% from 3PT). If he hits first few shots from the perimeter in a row he gets very confident and he is very difficult to guard … Eyenga has good balance in his offensive game and almost the same number of outside shots as well as free-throws … Solid free-throw shooter at 72 % from the free-throw line … Good rebounder at both ends of the floor due to his length and athleticism … Can block shots well due to his length and timing … Has all attributes to develop into a very good all-around player in the near future.
Weaknesses: Played most of the time at the PF in past few years and juniors, so still getting familiar with the wing … Lacks experience and fundamentals for NBA … Eyenga is still a raw player offensively and still has trouble beating defenders off the dribble … He is too predictable at times and drives to his right most of the time … He still has lots of room to improve in these areas … Relies too much on his jumping ability when going up for rebounds, needs to work on his positioning and fundamentals … Defensively he has to improve (right now he relies on his athleticism) … Eyenga still needs to work on his jump-shot; must become a more consistent outside shooter and better 3pt shooter as well in order to be offensive threat at the next level …

BYU Basketball 2009-2010: UNLV Rebels
With star Jimmer Fredette struggling with illness, the #23 BYU men’s basketball team opened conference play with an exciting 77-73 win over the UNLV Rebels in the Marriott Center on Wednesday night. BYU was led by Noah Hartsock and Jonathan Tavernari with 17 points each. BYU led 33-30 at halftime but UNLV opened the second half with a scoring frenzy to lead 45-40 and force a BYU timeout. BYU fought hard to stay in the game, but hot shooting by UNLV had the Rebels control most of the second half. Some key UNLV turnovers, combined with huge offensive plays by BYU’s trio of Michael Loyd Jr., Jonathan Tavernari, and Tyler Haws eventually propelled BYU to the come-from-behind victory. BYU is now 15-1 (1-0 in MWC play) and gets ready to renew an old WAC rivalry with UTEP on Saturday in El Paso, Texas.
