The Cincinnati Royals eventually became the Sacramento Kings. The Cavs were an expansion team, just like the Bobcats were a few years ago. They were never in another city.

In 1970, the Cavs joined the league as part of an expansion that also included the Portland Trail Blazers and the Buffalo Braves.

Chinamigarden is correct. The Ravens are not considered an expansion team. The new cleveland browns were an expansion team. A team added to the league, to increase the number of teams in the league. Just as the Cavaliers were. They were never anywhere else.

An expansion team is when the league decides to ad a team or teams to the league. They are brand new teams and not a team that moves from somewhere. The term expansion means that the league expanded (got larger) in order for them to be created.

In 1970 the Cavaliers were brand new and were not a team from somewhere else, nor were they a team that was renamed in Cleveland, they were an expansion team which means they were never anywhere else.

The Browns that moved to Baltimore are not considered an expansion team. Just like the Indy team that moved from Baltimore are not considered expansion, or the Cardinal team from St Louis to Arizona. They are teams that moved. This happens in sports but it is not expansion. The league must expand for that to happen

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been an expansion team since 1970. But before 1970, they were another team, and I do not know who. What was the team that expanded to become the Cavaliers?
No chinamigarden, because the Cleveland Browns became the expansion team, the Baltimore Ravens. They were always in the NFL and many Cleveland Browns were transferred to the Baltimore Ravens.
