2009 Dunk Contest Participants

January 1, 2009

The 2009 dunk contest will feature 2 previous champs, one player out for revenge, and one voted in rookie. Dwight Howard who won the contest in 2008 will be back for third time to try and win his second title. Nate Robinson will be back for the third time, he won the title in 2006 but lost to Gerald Green in 2007, he did not compete in 2008. Rudy Gay will be back for revenge last year he got booted in the first round, one of his dunks was pretty good to me but the judges did not agree.

The fourth participant will be either Rudy Fernandez of the Blazers, Joe Alexander of the Bucks, or Russell Westbrook of the Thunder.

Bynum And Oden Impress In Preseason Debuts

October 8, 2008

Lakers fans were anxious to get their first look at Andrew Bynum in months just as Blazers fans were anxious to get their first look at Greg Oden. Both players looked good. Bynum came off the Lakers bench to score 15 points and grab 8 rebounds. He had several short jumpers which is great to see. Although he played well, he did have four turnovers, so he still has a way to go.

Oden looked a bit heavy but you would expect that since he hasn’t played much the last year. He was able to score 13 points, grab 5 rebounds, and pick up 2 blocks. Most of his points came on dunks so he still has to develop an offensive game but he will help the Blazers out a lot on defense.

Free Agency Update

September 4, 2008

The season is about two months away and their are still some decent free agents that have not been signed. Below is a short list of some of the guys I think would be good pick ups for most teams.

Ben Gordon
Carl Landry
Shaun Livingston(If he’s healthy)
Bonzi Wells
Sam Cassell
Melvin Ely (I think he’s a free agent)

USA Gets The Gold

August 25, 2008

It was not easy but the USA was able to get the gold medal they have worked so hard for the last three years. Kobe made some key plays scoring and assisting to push the USA to the win. The team also got a great game from Dwayne Wade.

Josh Smith Got Robbed

August 25, 2008

It is not often that a normal guy like me can feel sorry for a millionaire but I feel sorry for Josh Smith he got robbed when he signed a $58 million deal. Deng can make $80 million with incentives, Igudola can make $80 million, Monta Ellis got $67 million, Okafor got $72 million, and all he got was $58 million.

He would have been better off signing the one year qualifying offer so he could be a unrestricted free agent next Summer.

USA Knocks Out Spain

August 16, 2008

Spain was supposed to be the USA’s toughest challenge but they did not put up much of a fight and they got blown out and embarrased. It was close and competitive for the beginning of the game but then the USA opened it up.

They have gotten a big boost of the bench from Wade, Paul, and Bosh the first few games. I would expect to see Tayshaun Prince see more minutes since he had a great game against Spain and showed that he can defend and knock down the 3.
