Phoenix Suns 2008-2009 Season Preview
November 5, 2008
The Suns have a new coach which means some things will be different for the team this year. First off more players will play. In the past the Suns would go with 7 or 8 guys but now with a few new players and a new coach they will play 9 or 10 players each game. Another thing that will be different is the defensive focus. In the past years the suns were focused on outscoring opponents, this year they are trying to shut down opponents while still scoring the basketball efficiently.
The Suns will make the playoffs in the West and with their new additions Matt Barnes, Goran Dragic, and Robin Lopez they should get farther this season, depending on what team they face in the first round. I think the Suns can knock off any team except the Lakers, Utah, and Hornets so if they can avoid those three teams until the conference finals they could possibly make it to the finals.
Dallas And Suns Seasons Come To An End
April 30, 2008
Two teams that made two big and risky trades had their seasons ended yesterday. The Suns traded for Shaq in order to match up better with San Antonio and LA but they got bounced in round one and only managed to win a game. The Mavs made a crazy trade for Jason Kidd and they got bounced in the first round too.
As I mentioned a couple of days ago their may be some big changes coming for both teams in the Summer. Especially with the West being so tough and many of the players on both teams getting older. Shaq, Nash, Grant Hill, Kidd, and Stackhouse are all in their thirties. It is going to be hard for those teams to compete against a athletic and young Laker’s team, a consistent Spurs team, and a up and coming Portland team, not to mention Utah, Houston, and New Orleans. It is very possible that the Mavs title window has closed as well as the Suns. Unless those teams do something big in the Summer they won’t even be considered legit title contenders at the start of the season.
Changes In Dallas And Phoenix
April 28, 2008
The Suns and Mavericks are two teams that have been successful in the West the last few years. Dallas made it to the Finals once in 2006 and the Suns have went as far as the Western Conference Finals but neither team has won it all and they both may be going out in the first round this year.
If both teams go down in round one it is possible the coaches of both teams will be fired. It is also possible that the rosters will be broken up. If Dallas make changes Avery Johnson will be out, Josh Howard would definitely be on the block because he disappears in the playoffs. It is also possible that they will try to dump Terry and Stackhouse. The only people on that team that are going to stick around for sure is Kidd, Dirk, and Bass.
If the Suns make changes they will probably look to add more than subtract because they are not that deep in the first place. They need to bring some players in that are dedicated to defense because they can’t guard anyone.
It’s Almost Time For Sundown In Phoenix
April 26, 2008
Shaq said when he was traded to the Suns that the Sun would rise in Phoenix, well it looks like the Sun is about to set in Phoenix. The Suns got killed yesterday from start to finish at home versus the Spurs and now they are down 3 games to 0. A lot of experts wrote the Spurs off saying they were old, talking about how they lost to the Suns three times, and talking about how good Shaq’s defense on Duncan had been. Well all that stuff is old news, the Suns will lose the series and their might be changes with the Suns organization next season.
Suns 1-2 With Shaq
February 24, 2008
The Phoenix Suns have some of their fans worrying after dropping to 1-2 with Shaq. They got killed today vs. the Pistons at home 116-86. Shaq was 3-8 from the field, 1-8 from the free throw line, and had 7 points, 11 boards and 3 to’s. They dropped to 5th in the West and are just 16-15 vs. the Western conference. Their schedule for the rest of the year is pretty hard. They play Detroit and Boston again, Denver 3 times, Golden State and Houston a couple of times so they don’t have much time to get things together. They may end up without homecourt advantage.
Miami Trading Shaq For Marion?
February 6, 2008
The Miami Heat are trying to dump Shaq off on the Phoenix Suns, and the Suns seem eager to take him. Their is a deal on the table that would send Shaq to the Suns in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. Some people are in favor of this trade while other are wondering what the Suns are thinking.
Word is the Suns want a defensive presence and a player in the middle that they can go to when the game slows down or when they matchup against big teams like the Nuggets, Spurs, and Lakers. They also think they would benefit greatly from putting Amare at the PF position.
The biggest reason people are dumping on this trade is because the Suns have won a ton of games with Nash, Marion, and Stoudemire, so why break it up? Also they are a running team and getting Shaq may cramp their style.
I think the trade is going to hurt them. My thought is that they are trying to get their own twin towers in Phoenix to offset the Lakers twin towers. It looks like a panic trade and if it doesn’t work out fans in Phoenix will be pissed and the Suns championship chances will be over.
This trade has been agreed to but it won’t be finalized unless Shaq passes a physical.
Kwame Brown Booed At Home
January 18, 2008
The Lakers faced the Suns yesterday. They were getting killed pretty early in the game but things got ugly in the 3rd quarter when Kwame Brown started missing dunks and layups and turning the ball over. That’s when the fans started booing him everytime he touched the basketball. It was actually hard to watch. Kwame isn’t a great player but hometown fans should still try to stick by him when he makes mistakes.
Phil Jackson left Kwame in the game through all the mistakes when most coaches would have pulled him. Overall my biggest problem with the game was that Kobe was not agressive in the 2 and 3 quarters. In addition, Kobe sat the first 6 minutes of the fourth quarter. Also the fact that the Lakers pretty much went to Kwame and Luke Walton on about 6 straight possessions in the 3rd quarter. It seems like they were trying to give some of their players confidence more than they were trying win. You have to focus on getting the win first because the West it tight. Four or Five straight losses and the Lakers could be out of the playoffs.

Man, this is sick.
Marion Wants Out Of Phoenix, Kobe Wants Marion
September 26, 2007
With rumors of a Shawn Marion for Lamar Odom trade, Shawn Marion is saying wants out of Phoenix and says he would welcome a trade to the Lakers. Kobe is also coming out and saying he hopes the trade goes through.
It is crazy that Marion wants out of Phoenix because they are so close to a championship. If Marion does get sent to LA it won’t really help the Lakers a bunch so I don’t know why Kobe wants him. He can give the Lakers more points, more rebounds, and more heart then Odom but that won’t take them to a title. Overall, I think Marion is a solid player that is underated but Lamar Odom is a more skilled player, he’s just not aggresive enough.
The best way for the Lakers to contend is to keep Odom and Kobe and add a third star player. Trading Odom straight up for Jermaine O’ Neal, Marion, or anyone else won’t help.
