Early Disappointments
November 29, 2008
If you check out the standings you will see teams like the Lakers and Celtics where you expected them to be, at the top of the standings. You will see teams like Minnesota and Okalahoma City at the bottom where you expected them to be. You will also see teams like New Orleans, Toronto, and Philadelphia with extremely disappointing records. New Orleans which many people saw as one of the top two teams in the West is sitting at 9 and 6. They have had some injury issues but overall they are not scoring the ball well.
Philadelphia was supposed to be a contender with the addition of Elton Brand but they are only 7 and 9. Players like Lou Williams and Andre Iguodola are not playing like they did last year and that is a big reason they are off to a slow start. With teams like Atlanta, Miami, and New Jersey playing better than expected, the 76ers better get it together or one of those other teams will be in the playoffs and the Sixers will be at home.
Chris Bosh is playing great in Toronto but the Raptors are only 7 and 9. With the growth of Bosh’s game, the addition of O’Neal, and Calderon running point full time you would think they would be over .500. The are in the same boat as the Sixers, if they don’t play better they will end up at home watching the playoffs.
Philadelphia 76ers 2008-2009 Season Preview
November 3, 2008
The 76ers are going to be a force in the East now that they have Elton Brand. He can easily score 20 points and grab 10 rebounds and if the 76ers made the playoffs without a guy like that, imagine what they can do with him. As long as everyone stays healthy the 76ers will get to the playoffs.
Some people see them as a team the can get to the finals but I don’t see it just because they have a very thin bench. Team like Boston and Detroit are too deep plus they are very good defensively.
Legit Summer League Players
July 17, 2007
A lot of people bash the NBA summer league because their is always a player or two that kills and gets peoples hope up thinking they will do it in the regular season, but they don’t. Darius Miles had a few great summer leagues in the past but he hasn’t been much of a player when he has played. Qyntel Woods got his money in the summer leagues a while back and he isn’t in the league anymore.
This year has some guys that won’t do anything in the regular season like Marcus Banks and Von Wafer but their are a few guys that I see taking their summer league game straight into the regular season.
One of those guys is Louis Williams of the 76ers. He is a Iverson type player because he is an undersized scorer. Sitting behind Iverson for a year and a half taught him a lot and now he looks ready to play some real minutes. He probably won’t start but he could be a solid sixth man and a person that plays a ton of crunch time minutes next season.
LaMarcus Aldridge is another player that should take his summer league game into the regular season. He no longer has to sit behind Zach Randolph and wait to get minutes, the PF spot is all his. With his minutes likely to hit the 35 to 40 range next season expect him to average a double-double.
Rany Foye is another guy that can’t wait for the season to start. Things were weird with the Wolves last season because the brought in Foye and signed Mike James a year after drafting Rashad McCants and they already had Troy Hudson and Jaric. With James gone, Rashad coming off a injury season, Hudson being washed up, and Jaric just being trash, Foye will be ready to take advantage of his increase in playing time by averaging at least 16ppg.
Iverson And Nash Out Of The All-Star Game
February 13, 2007
Allen Iverson and Steve Nash will not be participating in the All-Star game. Nash pulled out a few days ago and news about Iverson pulling out was announced today. With those two guys added to the list of injured all-stars the total is now up to 4 with Carlos Boozer and Yao Ming out.
With Iverson and Nash out the most likely suspects to replace those two are Ray Allen, Deron Williams, and Zach Randolph. Baron Davis would be in the mix too but he is injured and is expected to have surgery today.
Chris Webber Is About To Be A Free Agent
January 11, 2007
Chris Webber is about to be bought out by the Sixers and from what I have read 17 of the leagues 30 teams have called about him. Webber wants to play for a contender and has said he wants to play for Miami, Detroit, San Antonio, Dallas, and the Lakers.
According to this ESPN article Dallas and San Antonio are the least likely destinations. That leaves Miami, Detroit, and LA. Of those 3 teams I think favorite would be Detroit because they have the best team in a weak conference where as LA is good but the West is a lot tougher. Miami on the other hand has Shaq and Wade but they have struggled and right now are one of the worst teams in the East. When I say they are one of the worst teams, I mean in record and talent. A team like Atlanta has more talent then they do.
If he went to LA he would get solid minutes right away until Kwame and Odom come back. After that it would be hard for me to see him getting the type of playing time and touches he wants.
The best situation for him as far as minutes would be Miami. The best situation as far as winning a Championship would be Detroit. LA is solid but I don’t think he is a piece they need.
Iverson Is Headed To Denver
December 19, 2006
Allen Iverson is expected to be traded to the Denver Nuggets for Joe Smith, Andre Miller and two 2007 1st round draft picks. Many people such as Steven A. Smith are saying it is a good deal for both teams. To me it looks better on Denver’s end because the got a future hall of famer for a player being used sparingly, and aging point guard, and a few draft picks. This trade helps Denver because they add a guy that can score and that wants to win. Also they get to keep JR Smith and Nene, two guys that were floating around in the rumors.
They should have a starting 5 of Iverson, Smith, Najera, Melo, and Camby. Lets also remember that this team should still be intact next season and will have Kenyon Martin back.
On Phillies side they have an expiring contract with Joe Smith, and a pass first point guard in Miller. He should be able to get guys like Webber and Igudola more quality shots. Plus they have the two 2007 draft picks in what many are saying will be a very deep draft. With all those picks and Smith expiring contract they have the flexibility to make more moves before the trading deadline or on draft day.
Espn.com Trade Machine
December 14, 2006
Espn has a great little toy you can play with called the ESPN trade machine where you can go and be the general manager and see if you can make trades work out. I played with a few Allen Iverson deals. It seems so easy doing it at home.
This trade sends Iverson to the Lakers
This trade sends him to Dallas
Play around with it, it is kinda fun.
TMac For Iverson?
December 12, 2006
I have not heard any rumors regarding Houston even being interested in Iverson but I am just throwing this out there just because the Rockets know that McGrady is not a guy that can lead them to far. Over the last few years he has seemed a bit lazy. I remember the talk a few years ago about whom was better McGrady or Kobe, now no one really talks about McGrady, they talk about Lebron versus Kobe.
On the other hand Iverson is always playing hard even when he is hurt sick or whatever. The trade would give the Rockets more of a leader that will be on the floor. The trade would also give the 76ers a guy that can fill the seats when he plays. It is very unlikely this would go down but it is nice to think about it.
Iverson Should Be Traded In Next 48 Hours
December 10, 2006
The 76ers are ready to get ready of Iverson and they hope to trade him within the next 48 hours according to ESPN. The Sixers would prefer to trade him to the West but they are trying to do something ASAP so trading him to an eastern conference team is a big possibility.
