Detroit Gives The Lakers Their First Loss

November 15, 2008

The Piston gave the Lakers their first loss yesterday with great games from Rasheed, Iverson, Prince, and Kwame Brown. The Pistons held the lead most of the game and they seemed like they were knocking down every shot they took. They shot 50% for the game and they got a double double from Kwame Brown who was able to get a little revenge against the LA fans that booed him.

The Lakers on the other hand were missing everything and committing tons of silly fouls. Kobe was 12 for 30 while Fisher was 4 for 16. The Lakers also sent Detroit to the line for 34 free throw attempts. The Lakers tried to come back at the end of the game but they came up short.

Lakers Play Some Defense In First Game And Oden Gets Hurt

October 29, 2008

The Lakers look much different than last year. They did two things that people would not expect to see them do. They actually played some good defense. They rotated well and they were able to leave players like Prizbilla and Oden open for a second but still get back on defense. They also defended the pick and roll very well.

The second thing they did that most people wouldn’t expect is they played at a faster pace. They have gotten rid of the crappy triangle offense and they are running. It is only one game but they did look very good last night.

On the Portland side Rudy Fernandez was doing his thing. He is going to help them out a lot this season. He had 16 points off the bench in 29 minutes.

The bad news for Portland besides the fact that they got blew out is that Greg Oden injured his food. I am sure Portland fans cried themselves to sleep last night but to me it look like a simple injury that could have him out for maybe a few games.

This is a picture of Stacy Elizabeth Beshear the chick that has been accused of stalking Luke Walton. This chick is pretty horrible looking. Photo is courtesy of the OCRegister Lakers blog.

Bynum And Oden Impress In Preseason Debuts

October 8, 2008

Lakers fans were anxious to get their first look at Andrew Bynum in months just as Blazers fans were anxious to get their first look at Greg Oden. Both players looked good. Bynum came off the Lakers bench to score 15 points and grab 8 rebounds. He had several short jumpers which is great to see. Although he played well, he did have four turnovers, so he still has a way to go.

Oden looked a bit heavy but you would expect that since he hasn’t played much the last year. He was able to score 13 points, grab 5 rebounds, and pick up 2 blocks. Most of his points came on dunks so he still has to develop an offensive game but he will help the Blazers out a lot on defense.

Los Angeles Lakers 2008-2009 Season Preview

October 5, 2008

The Lakers made it to the Finals last season but they were missing a lot on the defensive end. They did not rebound well and gave up tons of easy layups. They hope to solve that problem with the return of young Andrew Bynum. Bynum was having a solid season last year before he was injured. With his return Pau Gasol will move down to the power forward spot and Lamar Odom will move to the small forward spot, or the bench.

A lot of people including a lot of media members are handing the title to the Lakers already because of the return of Bynum. I know he will improve the Lakers interior defense but unless their perimeter defense improves I don’t see them getting back to the finals.

Aside from defense the Lakers need to rotate their players better. All of their bench players, with the exception of Ariza and Farmer, are just shooters which means that the Lakers second unit isn’t aggressive going to the basket. Phil Jackson needs to keep one of the starters on the floor a bit longer so that have a go to guy on the second unit. Last season Lamar Odom was always the starter that stayed on the floor the longest but he not the type of guy to take over games. They lost quite a few leads with that second unit because the only shots going up where threes.

The Lakers have what it takes offensively and Bynum and Ariza will bring some of what the Lakers missed in the playoffs, slashing, rebound, and shot blocking, but with the increased competition in the West they have to play better perimeter defense and be more aggressive on offense to win a championship.

White Chocolate Retires

September 26, 2008

Jason Williams surprisingly retired today, just a few months after signing with the LA Clippers. This has come as a big shock to most people that watch the game. Their was no word on his reason for retiring but maybe he is just tired of the game. He has played in the NBA for 10 years, he has won a championship ring, and he has made enough money to last him for the rest of his life.

Vujacic Resigns With LA

July 26, 2008

The LA Lakers resigned Sasha Vujacic to a 3 year deal worth $15 million. He was supposedly looking for a 4 year deal worth $24 million. He also had some overseas offers which might have scared the Lakers into offering more money. They were offering about $4 million a year before bumping it up to $5 million a year.

Lamar Odom May Be On His Way Out Of LA

June 21, 2008

After the way the Lakers lost in the NBA Finals they are of course looking to get tougher. One of the main guys getting the blame is Lamer Odom. Gasol is getting the blame too but most consider him to be a PF not a center so he is getting less blame. Lamar on the other hand is entering the final year of his deal and other team my be willing to take him for a year because of his expiring contract.

Two players being mentioned are Ron Artest and Richard Jefferson. Both guys are aggressive and can provide more offense than Odom has provided. Both players are solid defenders and both players are young and would fit well with the Lakers.

Another player I think the Lakers should look at is Josh Smith. He is a restricted free agent but maybe they could get him in a sign and trade. Josh Smith is a athletic all around player that can block shots, rebound, and run the floor. He is a bit turnover prone but he works on his game so that might not be an issue in a year or two.

Celtics Win In Blowout

June 18, 2008

The Celtics blewout the Lakers to win the 2008 NBA Finals. The game was close in the first quarter but you could see signs of trouble coming for the Lakers because they were turning the ball over and giving up offensive rebounds. The Lakers went on a second quarter drought and were outscored by 19 in the second and it was pretty much over.

The Lakers played horrible defense, got outrebounded by 19, and didn’t take care of the ball. Once again Lamar and Gasol didn’t contribute much and Kobe didn’t do much either outside of the first quarter.

Paul Pierce won MVP for the Celtics.
