Golden State Warriors 2008-2009 Season Preview
September 29, 2008
The Warriors lost Baron Davis and Mickael Pietrus to free agency and lost Monta Ellis to a moped injury. They also brought in some new guys like Turiaf, Maggette, and Marcus Williams and are counting on second year players Brandan Wright and Marco Belinelli to step up. They also hope to get something from rookie Anthony Randolph but with out Baron this team won’t make the playoffs.
Every team that made the playoffs last year is as good or better than they were last year except for Denver. I also have to mention that two teams that did not make the playoffs, Portland and the Clippers, have improved.
The only way this team makes the playoffs is if a few of the up and down teams in the West like Dallas and Denver implode this season. The best thing the Warriors can do is try to stay close to the playoff hunt like they did last year and try to sneak in as an 8th seed.
Monta Was Riding A Moped When He Was Injured
September 24, 2008
Word is finally out on how Monta Ellis was injured, he was riding a moped. $66 million man on a moped? You can’t blame him though, most people think they are invincible until they are proven otherwise. No word on what the Warriors will do to punish him. Best case scenario for Ellis would be no fine or a fine, the worst case scenario would be if they tried to void his contract, but I doubt that would happen.
No Word On Monta
September 22, 2008
Weeks after finding out that Monta Ellis was injured during a non basketball activity their has still been no word on what that activity actually was. Many were speculating that it was a motorcycle accident but we won’t really know until the team makes an announcement.
Warriors Making Moves But Are They Better?
July 28, 2008
The Golden State Warriors have made a ton of moves this summer. They added Turiaf, Maggette, and Marcus Williams. They resigned Azubuike, Ellis, and Biedrins. They lost Baron and Pietrus. They plan to start Ellis, Maggette, Jackson, Harrington, and Biedrins. On the bench the have Williams, Turiaf, Brendan Wright, Azubuike, Belinelli, and Anthony Randolph.
Compared to last year they are not a better team because they have a inexperienced and young bench. They also have a guy running point that isn’t as great a ball handler as a point guard should be. This is a team that won 50 games last year but it is like they are trying to get younger )rebuild) and yet get pieces to win at the same time.
If the Warriors wanted to get younger and rebuild they should have brought in all young guys. If they want to win now they should have kept Baron and brought in veterans that they know can play.
Baron A Clipper
July 2, 2008
Baron Davis will be a LA Clipper next season. He opted out of the last year of his deal which would have paid him $17.8 million and took a 5 year $65 million deal with the LA Clippers. The Clippers plan to resign Elton Brand and the could have a starting lineup of Baron, Mobley, Thronton, Brand, and Kaman with Eric Gordon and Tim Thomas coming off the bench. It should be fun to watch.
Denver One Win Away From The 8th Seed
April 14, 2008
The Denver Nuggets blew out the Houston Rockets yesterday in a must win game. The are sitting in the 8th spot in the West right now and the only way they can lose it is it if they lose their final game and Golden State wins their final two. If Denver wins their final game and Golden State wins their final two Denver will get the eighth seed via tiebreaker.
Denver’s final game is against the Grizzlies. The Warriors last two games are against the Suns and Sonics.
Webber Signing Looking Like A Waste
February 10, 2008
Chris Webber has played two games with the Warriors and it seems like he is just out there stealing other players minutes. In two games he has played a total of 27 minutes and scored a total of 6 points. 14 of those 27 minutes were played yesterday. Golden State would have be much better off giving those 14 minutes to Al Harrington or Andres Biedrins because they will produce more.
Trying to force feed Webber minutes is going to hurt the Warriors. Hopefully they will get smart before the playoffs start and just stop playing the guy.
Webber Played His First Game With The Warriors Last Night
February 8, 2008
Webber played his first game with the Warriors last night. He played 13 minutes and had 4 points on two of five shooting and 1 rebound. Overall I think the signing looks like a waste. It is cool to sign Webber if you want to get a bit deeper or have him as a just in case player but I do not think he should be taking Harrington’s starting spot or Azubuike’s minutes.
Last night Harrington played 27 minutes and Azubuike did not play at all. I hope this is not a sign of how things will be the end of the season because if those two start playing less the Warriors will start losing.
NBA 2008 Western & Eastern All-Star Reserves
January 31, 2008
Eastern All-Star Reserves
Chris Bosh
Caron Butler
Paul Pierce
Chauncey Billups
Richard Hamilton
Joe Johnson
Antwan Jamison
Western All-Star Reserves
Steve Nash
Chris Paul
Dirk Nowitzki
Carlos Boozer
Amare Stoudemire
Brandon Roy
David West
The East picks were very well selected. You could lobby for Ray Allen, Hedo Turkoglu, and Richard Jefferson. The Celtics have the best record in the NBA and you could argue that their is no big difference between Paul Pierce and Allen so why should one make it while the other one not get selected.
Turkoglu has been playing well and the Magic are playing great as a team but he got overlooked big time probably because the scoring is under 20ppg, but he is having his best season.
Richard Jefferson is having a great season but his team sucks and they already have Kidd starting in the All-Star game.
In the West a ton of guys got snubbed and the people that were picked over them really do not deserve it if you ask me, Brandon Roy and David West, WTF? Baron Davis, Josh Howard, Marcus Camby, Chris Kaman, Shawn Marion, Deron Williams, Tony Parker, Stephen Jackson, Tyson Chandler, and Manu Ginobili all got stiffed.
I think Brandon Roy is extremely overrated. He is getting way to much credit for their record. He isn’t even the best 2nd year player in the NBA or even the best player on his team. Rudy Gay and LaMarcus Aldridge would take those crowns.
The Blazers added 5 new players to their team this year, they gave LaMarcus Aldridge more minutes, and two players Travis Outlaw and Martell Webster have stepped up and he gets all the credit.
David West? Give me a break. Tyson Chandler I would be fine with but West is not more deserving than any of the guys named above.
The main players I would pick to replace Roy and West would be Baron Davis And Josh Howard or Stephen Jackson. Baron and the Warriors have been killing the NBA I think that the 0-6 start probably has people thinking Baron isn’t that valuable to Golden State and Stephen Jacksons off the Court issues probably kept him off.
The last thing I can say to NBA players and coaches is to watch out for Baron Davis for the rest of the season.
