Bulls Luol Deng Is Not Earning His Money

November 24, 2008

The Bulls locked up Luol Deng this Summer with a $70 million dollar deal and right now it is looking like a big waste of money. Deng already had a down year in 07-08. All of his numbers dropped, now this year he is even worse, he is averaging 14.4 points and 6 rebounds on 39 percent shooting. It is early in the year but if those numbers don’t improve the Bulls will be looking like idiots for the next few years.

Another thing that makes Deng’s numbers even worse is that Ben Gordon, the player the Bulls did not want to pay, is averaging 20 points, 4 assists on 44 percent shooting. The didn’t want to pay Gordon because he is a small two guard, but he comes to play, unlike Deng, who could be the next Tim Thomas.

Ben Gordon Takes The One Year Deal

October 2, 2008

After a long Summer Ben Gordon finally resigned with the Bulls but not for a long term deal but for the one year qualifying offer for $6.4 million. By taking the qualifying offer Gordon can become an unrestricted free agent next Summer, meaning the Bulls could lose him to another team for nothing.

Gordon is taking a big risk with this one year deal. If he gets injured or has a poor season he could end up being offer less than the 6 year and $58 million that the Bulls offered him this Summer.

Chicago Bulls 2008-2009 Season Preview

September 11, 2008

The Bulls were supposed to be a top team in the Eastern confernce last season but the stunk. They started the season losing, they fired their coach, then they made a pretty bad trade near the trading deadline.

They had a little luck by getting the first pick in the draft but they have a first year coach, a ton of guards, and no real post presence. As a matter of fact this team only has 2 power forwards and one center.

The Bulls need to balance out their roster before they can even think about the playoffs. Obviously rose is their future pg so what happens with Hinrich if he isn’t traded, will he start or come off the bench. The Bulls have Larry Hughes and Ben Gordon (if they resign him) at the 2 spot along with Thabo Sefolosha. At the 3 they have Nocioni and Deng. At the 4 they have Gooden and Thomas. At the 5 they have Aaron Gray and the rest of the team is pretty much d leaguers.

This team will not make the playoffs this season unless they do something with their roster. It is too much confusion in regards to the point guard situation and their is not enough talent up front for this team to win more than 35 games.

Bulls Get The First Pick In The NBA Draft, Who Will They Take?

May 21, 2008

The Bulls had a 1.7% chance to get the first pick in the NBA draft and they were able to move up 8 spots to get it. Now they have their pick of Derrick Rose or Mike Beasley.

Derrick Rose is from Chicago and he would get the fans and the city excited for next season. But wait a second, the Bulls already have Kirk Hinrich first off all. Plus they are already a jump shooting team so drafting a guard won’t seem to help them much although Gooden and Noah played pretty well down the stretch, plus they still have Aaron Gray.

Beasley would give them some volume lost post scoring which they haven’t had since Elton Brand was in town. He can also step back and shoot the basketball. I think he would be good alongside Deng and Noah in the frontcourt.

As much as people have talked about point guards the last few years because of Paul and Williams I think they should go with Beasley. They need low post scoring more than they need a guy to run the offense.

Chris Paul Killed The Bulls Last Night

Chris Paul took over down the stretch against the Bulls and lead New Orleans to a great home win. He was getting to the basket at will. Check out the highlights below.

Ben Gordon Playing Well

January 3, 2008

Bulls guard Ben Gordon had benefited from the Bulls recent coaching change. He has come off the bench in those 4 games and he has averaged 29.3 points per game. He has basically returned back to last year’s form instantly. Maybe he likes the new system more, maybe he is motivated because he wants to start again, or maybe he is just sick of losing and knew he needed to step up.

The Bulls have won 3 of their last 4 games and they have the ability to get over .500 very soon if Gordon keeps playing this way.

Scott Skiles Unemployed

December 24, 2007

The Chicago Bulls fired Scott Skiles today after his Bulls started the season with a disappointing 9-16 start. Many experts picked them to be the 3rd best team in the East behind the Celtics and Pistons but they have not lived up to those expectations.

Many of their problems were blamed on Kobe trade rumors and the fact that Deng and Gordon did not get contract extensions. Whatever the problem was, it has costs Skiles his job.

Even though the Bulls have what seems like a very solid roster, they suck in regards to frontcourt offense. I said right away getting Ben Wallace was a mistake, they would have been better off keeping Tyson Chandler. He can’t score much either but he is bigger and he would have been cheaper. Also remember that the Bulls traded LaMarcus Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas. Aldridge is averaging 18.5 points and 7.7 rebound per game while Thomas is averaging just 6.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

Correct those 2 mistakes and you have a team that has better interior defense, an interior scorer, and best of all, no Ben Wallace.

Should The Bulls Be Worried

November 7, 2007

The Chicago Bulls are 0 and 4 which is very interesting considering that they did not want to trade for Kobe. Now they have got fans and analysts wondering if they should be worried and if they should go ahead and go after Kobe.

I think that the players have been a little shaken by the trade rumors which is why they are not performing. One of their biggest problems is that they do not have a go to player. Deng, Gordon, and Hinrich are good but neither one of them is a consistent go to player down the stretch. Another problem is that Ben Wallace has been injured.

Also throw in the fact that Gordon and Deng are pretty much playing for their future. Both players turned down $50 million extensions recently and they probably have it on their mind so much that they have a hard time putting the team first.
