Boston Celtics 2008-2009 Season Preview
September 6, 2008
The Celtics won the championship last year with toughest, defense, and contributions from their role players. Even though the won the title they had trouble with the Hawks and the Cavs in the playoffs so they are not invincible. They won’t win 67 games this year but the should be the top seed in the East.
They have added two new guys one is Patrick O Bryant, a guy that never player in Golden State. They worked him out so he must have showed enough because they signed him. They also picked up Darius Miles, who knows what will happen with that. Many people think they signed him just so his salary would go back on Portland’s books. That would prevent them from being a big player in free agency in the future.
The team added a few rookie wing players Bill Walker and JR Giddens who knows if either one of them will actually play. The team also kept Tony Allen and Eddie House.
They can look forward to getting more from Leon Powe, Rondo, Perkins, and Big Baby. All four of them played well last season and I expect them to step up and help their aging big three.
Celtics Win In Blowout
June 18, 2008
The Celtics blewout the Lakers to win the 2008 NBA Finals. The game was close in the first quarter but you could see signs of trouble coming for the Lakers because they were turning the ball over and giving up offensive rebounds. The Lakers went on a second quarter drought and were outscored by 19 in the second and it was pretty much over.
The Lakers played horrible defense, got outrebounded by 19, and didn’t take care of the ball. Once again Lamar and Gasol didn’t contribute much and Kobe didn’t do much either outside of the first quarter.
Paul Pierce won MVP for the Celtics.
Lakers Get A Game 6
June 16, 2008
The Lakers were able to get a win in Game 6 versus the Celtics to force the series back to Boston. They pulled out early in the game but once again were unable to hold on to the lead. If the Lakers want to win in Boston they have to play better defense. They have been getting killed by the pick in roll. They have also been losing guys like Ray Allen, James Posey, and Eddie House by trying to double Garnett, and they have been getting lost on screens. There ability to get defensive rebounds has also led to numerous open threes for the Celtics.
Phil Jackson needs to step it up too. I know he likes to be a calm guy and do crazy things here and there like when he put Javaris Crittenton in the final minutes of a Knicks game were the Lakers blew a 20 something point led. Even the announcers calling that game were like what the hell? But this is the Finals, we don’t need to see Chris Mihm on the court, we don’t need to see Walton guarding Pierce, we don’t need to see Lamar and Fisher sitting the fish 6 minutes of the 4th quarter, we don’t need to see Radmonovic guarding Pierce.
If the Celtics want to close things out they have to start the game off good and get the crowd in the game. They have to feed Garnett in the post if he decides to go down there and have 4 shooters ready to catch and launch when he passes out of the double team. They also have to keep the big three on the court. Pierce and Garnett struggled with fouls in Game 5 that limited their productivity.
Lakers Still Alive
June 15, 2008
The Lakers choked in game 4 of the NBA Finals but the series is not over until they lose 4 games. It is possible for them to comeback but not likely. The only thing the Lakers have to look at right know is is getting this game 5 at home and taking the series back to Boston.
Vujacic’s Limited Minutes In The Third Quarter Of Game 3 Nearly Cost The Lakers
June 12, 2008
In game 3 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday Sasha Vujacic had a stellar first half. I believe he scored 10 points. In the third quarter I expected him to be the first guy off the bench but Trevor Ariza was and I was shocked. Ariza is a good player but he is not as good a shooter as Vujacic. Around that same time the Celtics took the lead and I was like what the hell is Phil Jackson doing.
He finally put Vujacic in with about 2 minutes to go in the 3rd and Vujacic went on to score another 10 points in the second half. I said before game three that Vujacic should play more minutes and I was right. When he plays he produces.
Gasol And Garnett Are Both Soft
June 11, 2008
Before the series people were calling Pau Gasol soft and he has been playing soft but he isn’t the only one. Kevin Garnett is playing just as soft. That guys has great low post moves and is very athletic but he would rather shoot 18 footers rather than fight for position in the paint.
Kevin Garnett was 6 for 21 in game 3 and he only took 5 shots in the paint.

Lakers Battle Back Against Boston But Still Lose
June 9, 2008
The Lakers got down by 24 point to the Boston Celtics but started to play some defense and knock down threes and they were able to cut the lead to two points but a bad foul put Pierce on the line where he hit both free throws. Then the Lakers were unable to get Kobe the ball, Vujacic missed a three and that was pretty much it after Boston hit two more free throws.
The Lakers have to change somethings fast if they want to win this series. They have to get to the free throw line. They have to stop complaining and get back on defense because Boston is not going to wait for them. They have to boxout and get rebounds. They have to switch up somethings on defense. I think they should play Vujacic more and put him on Allen and then put Kobe on Paul Pierce. Radmonovic on Pierce is a total mismatch. One of the biggest things the Lakers have to do is feed Gasol. Garnett can’t guard Gasol so Gasol should be getting more than 12 shots. I know Kobe is a monster but to me Gasol should be the go to guy for the Lakers, especially if he is making shots. In many games I have seen this season the Lakers will go to Gasol a lot unless he is messing up. This series he has been ballin but they pretty much freeze him out in the second half. He only scored 5 points in the second half.
If Boston wants to put this series away they have to play on the road like they did in the Detroit series. They have to show that defense they showed during the regular season because they have not really played great Defense in the series. They have to give Powe more minutes and they have to give Cassell less minutes because that guy is greedy.
Celtics Win Game 1 Of The Finals
June 6, 2008
The Celtics were able to get a win over the Lakers in a game that was close throughout. The Lakers were killing the Celtics early on with the screen and roll and guys like Fisher, Odom, and Gasol were knocking down shots. In the second half the Celtics started to defend the screen and roll better so Gasols looks were not a wide open, and guys on the Lakers squad like Vujacic and Kobe were missing shots they usually make.
Kobe went 9 for 26 in the game and he had good shots, especially in the first half. People are going to be jocking the Celtics defense today saying they shut down Kobe which I don’t agree with. He got the same looks he got in the Spurs series plus he got to the free throw line. He attempted 6 free throws yesterday in game one while he only attempted 11 free throw in the entire series with the Spurs.
The biggest problem the Lakers had outside of Kobe missing shots was the rebounding. They got outrebounded by 13 which should not happen when you start 3 guys over 6 foot 10.
I still got the Lakers winning this series.
