McGrady Says The Finals Looked Rigged

August 2, 2006

Tracy McGrady did a interview show the other day and he was asked about the calls Dwayne Wade was getting. He said from watching it, it looked like it was rigged. Lets see if he ends up getting fined for that statement.

NBA Finals Game 6

June 21, 2006

The Heat won the NBA championship in another close game as Dallas made another big mistake down the stretch. Dirk passed to Dampier on a pick and roll and he did not catch the pass. Dallas still got a chance at the end but Terry missed the shoot. Almost every Mav played poorly except Dirk and he wasn’t that agressive in the second half. The person that impressed me the most was Marques Daniels, splitting the double and going to the hole and avoiding getting his shot block. Throughout the series only a few players, like Harris and Stack, went to the hole agressively but they was never able to finsh. I recall 3 or 4 missed dunks by Stack in the series and around 3 or4 missed layups in one game for Harris.

If you look at the series the calls for Wade in the last two games have beed trash. In Game 6 Wade jumped in the air and came down and fell, Howard was by him but did not touch him and they called a foul. Even though the refs sucked the mavs made mistakes down the stretch in game 3, 5, and 6.

Regarding the refs and article I read recently mention something about having younger referees, which is something I never though about. Why do sports have 50 and 60 year old referees that probably can’t see?

Now on to the Heat, they were able to close out the last few games better than Dallas, although I was surprised that Wade missed both free throws. To get back next year the heat have to get younger. They got lucky with that roster this season if you ask me. The thing about Shaq and Wade is that people want to play with them so they should be able to make trades or sign some free agents. I am sure the Mavs will try to add some post offense. They rarely posted anyone up in the series, having a player that can do something down low and catch the ball will help.

Dallas Gives Another One Away

June 19, 2006

The Mavs gave the game away yesterday with a few mistakes and some help from the refs. Dampier went 1 for 2 late in the fourth quarter. Josh Howard who was 9 for 9, missed 2 straight free throws in OT the he called a timeout which put the Mavs in position to have to go full court in a little over 1 second.

I was disappointed by the mistakes but I was also mad about how the game was called. The refs watched Wade push a man down on the Heats final play of overtime without calling an offensive foul. Then they call a foul on his drive when no one touched him.

I was diappointed with the lineups Avery was playing, I don’t know if it is just me but it seems like everytime I look up Jason Terry hits about 3 or 4 shots in a row and then gets taken out for some rest. Terry should have had a 50 point game in the series by now. In the playoff key guys need to be playing 45 minutes if you ask me. I am glad Dirk stepped up and hit those two big shots but I was diappointed on a few plays in which they spent about 18 seconds trying to get him the ball. Terry and Howard were hitting all game, whats the point of spending 18 seconds trying to get person that isn’t doing much the ball? That is what forced them into that late fourth quarter 24 second violation.

Overall the series should be over Mavs 4 to 1 but they have given away 2 games. They will have home court, they will have stackhouse back but will that be enough.

Stackhouse Suspension

June 17, 2006

Stackhouse had been suspended for game 5 of the NBA Finals for his flagrant foul on Shaq. I think the suspension is a bit too much. Their have been several suspensions in the playoffs like Jason Terry punching Finley or Posey running down Hinrich but those were intentional. This was more of momentum carrying him into Shaq. Also when fouling someone that large of course you want to foul him hard enough to make sure he doesn’t make the shot.

Anyway the other Mavs will have to step up, they still have the firepower to win it but they can’t keep getting poor games from their best players.

NBA Finals 2006 Game 4

June 16, 2006

The Mavericks got killed in game 4 because Dirk and Howard did not play well. This is the second time in the series they have done that. The first time was game 1 but they were able to when because of Terry and Stackhouse.

The Mavs were able to make a comeback at the in of the 3rd quarter and they had their chances in the fourth when they forced a lot of turnovers but they just could not hit anything. They seemed to be shooting to many jumpers although a good portion of them were open. I am wondering why they don’t post up Dirk a bit more, he could free up some cutters.

On the Heat side Wade had a good game, he did a lot in the first half and slowed down in the second half. I still believe the Mavs will take the next two games because they are the better team it is just a matter of Dirk and Howard coming up big and if they can’t Terry needs more shots. I watch the entire game and it seemed like he barely played. It seems like Avery Johnson doesn’t know how to stick with the hot player. Last game Howard didn’t take a shot in the fourth. This game Terry played the best of their top 4 players and he was barely in the game.

NBA Playoffs 2006 Game 3

June 14, 2006

The Mavericks had the game and they let it slip away. One of the biggest mistakes I think they made was letting Wade drive baseline the whole game. If he was forced to the middle there would have been more defensive help. On the play in which Gary Payton hit that jump, Wade was going middle and was cut off and was forced to pass, that something they should have did earlier in the game. As a matter of fact that is what they did in game 2, forced Wade down the middle and cause him to travel several times.

The Mavs had poor game from Stackhouse, which is surprising, especially as well as he has been playing. The biggest mistake was Dirk missing the free throw but they still had a chance. Me personally I didn’t like the play. Why throw it into traffic like that, especially on Wade, when you have a team full of shooters.

The heat on the other hand just made their shots this game but the fact that they played their game and only won by 2 still has me thinking the Mavs will win. If you ask me that is the best the Heat can play. A 40 plus point game from Wade, Shaq diving on the floor for loose balls, they really can’t play much better if you ask me so they should be worried.

NBA Finals Game 2

June 12, 2006

Dallas really killed Miami last night. They shut down Shaq, he only had 5 points. They were coming hard and quick on their double team and it was up to other Heat players to make shots and they couldn’t. I am very surprised that the heat did not play Derek or Shandon Anderson. I would think Riley would try to do something different after game 2. The only thing he did was play Mourning a bit more and he player well. The Heat actually made a nice little comeback but they fell short.

I am very curious as to what Riley will do. I see he doesn’t want to expand on his bench. I would think that he would post up Walker a bit more or play Jason Wlliams more minutes. Maybe he could force the Mavs to play a half court game by playing Shaq and Zo together. He may only have two more games to test things out so he better get it right soon.

Heat made too many mistakes

June 9, 2006

The Mavericks won by ten but it seems as if the Heat hurt themselves a lot more than the Dallas defense did. The heat made a lot of turnovers and missed a lot of free throws. Shaq and Wade primarily. Defensively the Heat could not run with the Mavericks, Jason Terry Ripped them and Devin Harris did good spliting the double teams when he was in.

Honestly, I feel that Mourning needs to play more because he can protect the basket in the half court, although playing Shaq and Mourning at the same time would not be smart. In the next game I think the heat will play more players maybe Derek or Shandon Anderson for a better defender on Terry at times. I am sure Shaq will demand more touches and the Heat will cut back on three point attempts. Lets see if that will be enough for them to steal a game.

Heat vs. Dallas Matchups

June 4, 2006

C  Shaq vs. Diop Advantage=Shaq

PF Haslem vs. Dirk Advantage=Dirk

SF Walker vs. Howard Advantage=Howard

SG Wade vs. Harris Advantage=Wade

PG Williams vs. Terry Advantage= Terry

Bench Advantage= Dallas

Coaching Advantage=Miami

The Mavericks seem to have a big advatage in several areas. Speed, youth, versatility, and depth. The key to this series for Dallas will be Josh Howard because he may spend some time on Wade. If he can keep wade decent and still get his points the Mavs should benefit. Also I don’t think the Mavs will come with a hard double team so the other heat player won’t be as free for open shots.

Th heat on the other hand will need more from their bench. If Harris does start Payton won’t be able to keep up on the second unit. Stackhouse will also cause problems for the Heat unless they plan on giving Derek Anderson more playing time. Posey needs to do more on offense as well. If the heat don’t get anything from their bench they will have to win by playing their starters big minutes and to do that they must avoid foul trouble which just won’t happen.
