Maggette Is The Top Free Agent Out There
July 7, 2008
Every year their are players that jump ship to a contender for less money to get a ring but they are usually guys that are past their prime, some examples are Gary Payton, Karl Malone, and PJ Brown. This year their is a guy that is trying jump ship to a contender for less money but he is not past his prime he is in his prime and he is willing to take the midlevel exception of around $6 million to sign with a contender.
This is a guy that should be making at least $10 million a year. He averaged 22 points a game last year and which ever team he goes to he will make a big impact.
The teams pursuing him are San Antonio, Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, Orlando, New Orleans and Utah. If he goes to Boston then the will almost certainly be back in the Finals next season. He could also provide a big boost to all the other teams listed especially San Antonio because they are one of the top contenders in the West. The Lakers are interested I am sure but they will lose Vujacic and Turiaf if they go after Maggette.
Mavs Sign Gerald Green
July 2, 2008
The Mavericks have signed Gerald Green to a one year contract. Green played to years for the Celtics and averaged 10.4 points a game in his second year. He was traded to Minnesota in the Garnett deal and they gave up on him right away by not picking up his fourth year option and by not playing him. He was traded to Houston before the trading deadline but was cut almost immediately. They are hoping he can become a solid backup for Josh Howard in Dallas.
Baron A Clipper
July 2, 2008
Baron Davis will be a LA Clipper next season. He opted out of the last year of his deal which would have paid him $17.8 million and took a 5 year $65 million deal with the LA Clippers. The Clippers plan to resign Elton Brand and the could have a starting lineup of Baron, Mobley, Thronton, Brand, and Kaman with Eric Gordon and Tim Thomas coming off the bench. It should be fun to watch.
