Yao Ming Done For The Season

Just when I finished writing about the Nuggets most likely not making the playoffs, I find out that Yao Ming will be out for the rest of the regular season and playoffs with a stress fracture in his left foot. The treament for the injury will take 4 months.

With this blow to the Rockets it is a very good chance that they won’t make the NBA playoffs. The West is extra tough this year. When the Lakers lost Bynum they started to go downhill before they added Gasol. The same thing may happen to the Rockets because they not only lose Yao Ming but they traded away Bonzi Wells and Mike James. The also have lost Steve Francis for the rest of the season.

McGrady is going to have to start dropping 30 points a night just to get the Rockets in the playoffs and once he gets there he most likely will get bounced in the first round again.

Denver Is Slipping And Might Not Make The Playoffs

Before the season Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson said their goal was to win 60 games. The season is 2/3 finished and these guys might not even make the playoffs. Right now their record is 33-23 and they are in the 9th spot in the West.

They are a good team but they do not commit to playing defense at all. They have also had some injuries, although many other teams have too. Another issue is that they have a tough schedule. They play Houston, Phoenix, San Antonio, Utah, and San Antonio again over a 5 game stretch starting March 2nd. It is possible they could lose all of those games. At the end of March they play a 4 game stretch against Dallas, Golden State, and then Phoenix twice. Then just before the season ends they play a three game stretch against Golden State, Utah, and Houston.

Those are 12 tough games that could bury them and have them on the outside of the playoffs looking in.

Suns 1-2 With Shaq

The Phoenix Suns have some of their fans worrying after dropping to 1-2 with Shaq. They got killed today vs. the Pistons at home 116-86. Shaq was 3-8 from the field, 1-8 from the free throw line, and had 7 points, 11 boards and 3 to’s. They dropped to 5th in the West and are just 16-15 vs. the Western conference. Their schedule for the rest of the year is pretty hard. They play Detroit and Boston again, Denver 3 times, Golden State and Houston a couple of times so they don’t have much time to get things together. They may end up without homecourt advantage.

JKidd Deal Final

The Jason Kidd deal is final. The final trade went down like this, Dallas gets Jason Kidd, Malik Allen, and Antonie Wright and New Jersey gets Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager, Keith Van Horn, and a 2008 and 2010 draft pick. This deal will cost the Mavs $11 million than the original deal but the Mavs get to keep Jerry Stackhouse and Devean George.
