Lakers Lose Ariza To Injury, Sign Mbenga

January 21, 2008

The Lakers have already lost Chris Mihm and Andrew Bynum to injuries not they have lost Trevor Ariza to a broken foot. He broke the foot in practice on Sunday and will miss eight weeks.

Ariza was a solid addition to the Lakers because he gave them a quality slasher which was a good mix with the jump shooters they already have.

Also, the Lakers sign big man DJ Mbenga who was recently released by the Warriors.

Kwame Brown Apologizes To Teammates

January 20, 2008

Kwame Brown apologized to his teammates for his performance against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday. He said that he should not have let the fans booing affect his performance.

He started the game playing decent but he was still hearing some boos. By the third quarter the boos increased and so did his mistakes. He admitted to a lack of confidence and stated that he has to finish dunks and layups.

Kwame also went to practice early to work on his post moves with Abdul-Jabbar, the guy that has helped Andrew Bynum become the player he is. Maybe the boos have got Kwame in the mindset where he wants to work harder. He is only 25, he still has a chance to improve his game. I am rooting for him to perform well and make Laker fans proud.

Kwame Brown Booed At Home

January 18, 2008

The Lakers faced the Suns yesterday. They were getting killed pretty early in the game but things got ugly in the 3rd quarter when Kwame Brown started missing dunks and layups and turning the ball over. That’s when the fans started booing him everytime he touched the basketball. It was actually hard to watch. Kwame isn’t a great player but hometown fans should still try to stick by him when he makes mistakes.

Phil Jackson left Kwame in the game through all the mistakes when most coaches would have pulled him. Overall my biggest problem with the game was that Kobe was not agressive in the 2 and 3 quarters. In addition, Kobe sat the first 6 minutes of the fourth quarter. Also the fact that the Lakers pretty much went to Kwame and Luke Walton on about 6 straight possessions in the 3rd quarter. It seems like they were trying to give some of their players confidence more than they were trying win. You have to focus on getting the win first because the West it tight. Four or Five straight losses and the Lakers could be out of the playoffs.

Derrick Caracter Has Really Fallen Off

January 17, 2008

I remember a few years back when Greg Oden was in high school, whenever you heard his name you heard Caracter’s name because they were top players in their class and scouts were back and fourth on which on was better. At one point Caracter was ranked above Oden.

Over the years Oden got better, went to college, and went on to be the number 1 pick in the NBA draft. He is not playing this year because of injury but he is a millionaire with several endorsements that will be a force in the NBA.

Caracter on the other has quietly went to Louisville were he is a solid player but he has had problems with his weight and following the rules. Caracter is anxious to get to the NBA but since he has fallen off so much if he came out this summer he wouldn’t even be a first round pick unless he has some killer workouts. If he enters the draft he will be a second round pick with a non guaranteed deal, no millions, no endorsements.

Lakers Looking At Webber

January 15, 2008

With Andrew Bynum out for two months the Lakers are looking at trying to get Chris Webber or PJ Brown. They already have center Chris Mihm out in addition to Bynum. The only big men they have are Kwame Brown, Steven A. Smith’s best buddy, and undersized Ronny Turiaf.

The addition of Webber would give them a versatile big guy that would fit well in the triangle offense. He can score and pass but he is a slow and has not paid in a while. PJ would give the Lakers a guy that is a good rebounder and defender but that isn’t known for his scoring.

Neither player can replace Bynum but they will help ease the loss. Also it would be good for the Lakers to have another big guy around during the playoffs.

Why Does Steven A Smith Hate Kwame Brown?

January 13, 2008

Whenever Steven A. Smith is on ESPN during a pregame show, halftime show, or any interview that has anything to do with basketball he always has to dump on Kwame Brown.

It is funny as hell, and Kwame isn’t the best player but their are a bunch of other guys in the NBA that suck, why just focus on Kwame. Kwame must have slept with this guy’s wife, sister, or daughter before because Steven A Smith hates him.

Bibby Comesback This Week

January 13, 2008

Mike Bibby has missed the entire season with a thumb injury but he is expected to return this week. Bibby has been the subject of many trade rumors. The Cavs and Heat have been trying to land him for a while but nothing has happened.

The trade deadline is about 5 weeks from now. If Bibby comes back and plays well the Kings could change their mind and keep him or they could ask for more for him. If he plays poorly the Kings might have to take less if they decide to trade him. His play is going to be an important factor in whether he is moved and what he is moved for.

Kenny George Needs More Shots

January 10, 2008

I watched the UNC vs. UNC Asheville game yesterday and I was disappointed with the strategy that UNC Asheville was using. They have a 7 foot 8 center, yet they do not give him as many touches as they should. The guy is huge and shoots 70% from the field. Of course he will drop some passes and miss and couple of hooks and layups but he should still be getting at least 20 shots each night.

On a bunch of possessions the Asheville guards just ignored the guy so they could go one on one, or they would pull up for a quick jumper before he even got down the floor.

It will be interesting to see it the Asheville coach will switch up his offense to be geared around Kenny George or if he will countine to let his guards run the offense like idiots.
