The Trade Deadline Is 50 Days Away

December 31, 2007

The trade deadline is coming up in about 50 days and their are a lot of guys teams want to move. It will be interesting to see if a lot of deals happen. The most coveted items are point guards, big men, and expiring contracts.

Guys like Kwame Brown, Jason Williams, and Ricky Davis have expiring deal and their team want to get rid of them and improve. Big men like Ben Wallace and Pau Gasol are on the block. Gasol doesn’t seem to care about being in Memphis and Wallace is not productive with the Bulls. Jason Kidd, Mike Bibby, Smush Parker, and Andre Miller are a few point guard that may be moved. The Lakers are trying to get Kidd, so are the Cavs and Mavericks. The Heat are desperate to make a move and would takeKidd, Bibby, or Miller.

Larry Hughes is another scrub that is trade bait. It is hard to tell which player is the most likely to be moved. A lot of rumors do not come true but maybe they will this year.

All Star Picks In The West Will Be Hard

December 28, 2007

As you all know the coaches vote for the reserves for the all-star game. They are required to vote for 1 center, 2 forwards, 2 guards, and 2 players at any position. The east should not be that hard to do but the West will be especially in the backcourt.

For the backup center you have to go with Amare, Camby, or Kaman. For forwards Boozer, Stephen Jackson, Josh Howard, Marion, and Dirk. For guards you have to consider Baron Davis, Steve Nash, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Allen Iverson, Ginoboli, Tony Parker, and Brandon Roy.

Out of the 16 players I named only 7 can make it. I would think Nash, Amare, and Boozer are locks. AI should be a lock since he is 3rd in the league in scoring but who knows. The biggest thing teams will have to consider in making their picks will be the record of each players team.

One other thing, it is too bad fans are voting for McGrady to start, that guy shouldn’t even be on the all-star team this year. Fans need to step up and vote for Nash or AI to start for the West.

Damon Jones Wants Out Of Cleveland

December 27, 2007

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Damon Jones wants out of Cleveland because he is barely playing. Word is he refused to go into the game with less than a minute left in the game against the Golden State Warriors.

He along with many Cleveland writers, players, and fans are wondering what is up with Mike Brown’s rotation. Players like Shannon Brown, Eric Snow, and Damon Jones can go from starting or playing significant minutes to getting no playing time at all. Drew Gooden has been decreasing in productivity since Varejao came back, and Sasha continues to start even though he is a shooter that can’t knock down a shot.

Moves are coming soon in Cleveland. Damon Jones, Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, Eric Snow, and Shannon Brown are all on the pretty much on the trading block. The coach’s job may also be at stake if the team keeps playing how it is playing.

Ariza Dunks On Grant Hill

December 26, 2007

Man, this is sick.

Scott Skiles Unemployed

December 24, 2007

The Chicago Bulls fired Scott Skiles today after his Bulls started the season with a disappointing 9-16 start. Many experts picked them to be the 3rd best team in the East behind the Celtics and Pistons but they have not lived up to those expectations.

Many of their problems were blamed on Kobe trade rumors and the fact that Deng and Gordon did not get contract extensions. Whatever the problem was, it has costs Skiles his job.

Even though the Bulls have what seems like a very solid roster, they suck in regards to frontcourt offense. I said right away getting Ben Wallace was a mistake, they would have been better off keeping Tyson Chandler. He can’t score much either but he is bigger and he would have been cheaper. Also remember that the Bulls traded LaMarcus Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas. Aldridge is averaging 18.5 points and 7.7 rebound per game while Thomas is averaging just 6.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

Correct those 2 mistakes and you have a team that has better interior defense, an interior scorer, and best of all, no Ben Wallace.

Cavs Trying To Dump Hughes

December 24, 2007

The Cavs signed hughes back in 2005 to be Lebron James sidekick but since he has been with the team he has been a disappointment. Over the few years Hughes has been in Cleveland he has been ineffective or injured most of the time. Word is the Cavs will try to move him as soon as possible.

That time can’t come soon enough for Cavs fans would love to boo him anytime he makes a mistake or misses a shot. Larry has 2 years left on his deal after this season at a price of about $26 million. I am not sure how many teams are interested in Hughes because of the money and the injuries, I guess we will have to wait and see.

Lakers Still Looking At Kidd

December 23, 2007

The LA Lakers are 16 and 10, the bench is playing well and Andrew Bynum is one of the top 5 centers in the NBA but they still want Jason Kidd. They are trying to get Kidd with Kwame Brown, Radmonovic, and Farmar. Kwame Brown’s contract is expiring so that would give the nets some cap relief.

If the Lakers were able to pull off a deal to get Kidd and keep Bryant, Odom, and Bynum they would be vastly improved and they would still have a very good bench because Fisher would become the teams sixth man. That would also free up more minutes for Turiaf and Ariza.

Portland Playing Well

December 22, 2007

The Blazers have taken the entire NBA by surprise in the last few weeks they have won 10 straight games. This is a shock to most people because Greg Oden is out for the entire season. They have overcome the lost of Oden and they have been following the lead of Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Even though the Blazers are knocking off every challenger, it is early in the season and in the end I do not think they will make the playoffs. A lot of teams like Utah and Houston are playing bad but they will get back on track and the Blazers be on the outside looking in.

Shannon Brown Back At The End Of The Bench In Cleveland

December 21, 2007

Shannon Brown averaged 16 points per game in the 3 games he started when Lebron was out. You would think that would earn the guy more playing time but he is back to the end of the bench now that Lebron and Hughes are back.

I am not saying he should be starting or getting 40 minutes a night when Lebron and Hughes are healthy but he should at least be able to get 10 to 20 minutes per game. In the last 3 game he has not even played.

Word is he is on the trading block so the probably where just showcasing him. If they do trade him hopefully he could get some solid minutes with his new team.
