Golden State Goes Up 3 Games to 1
April 30, 2007
The Warriors shut down the Mavericks yesterday in the fourth quarter and went up 3 games to 1 in their first round series. The Mavs fought hard but they could not pullout a victory. I thought the Warriors were in trouble when Baron Davis picked up his second foul but he was able to stay in the game and play under control. The fact the Golden State won this game despite launching an excessive amount of threes, they were 12 for 31, missing 14Â free throws, getting 0 points from Monta Ellis, and getting outrebounded by 14 shows how good they are playing.
They are one victory away from beat a team that won 67 games this season and was almost everyone favorite to win the title. It the Mavs end up losing in the first round it will be interesting to see what happens with the team. Will Avery Johnson get fired? Will players get traded?
It is amazing to see this happen to them especially after what happened last year in the finals. These guys love basketball and to go out like this two years in a row could be career changing as far as confidence. A guy like Dirk could become the next Keith Van Horn if he is unable to recover.
Don’t even get me started on Mark Cuban, that guy might die of a heart attack or commit suicide if they go out like this.
Lakers Lose, Again
April 30, 2007
The Lakers kept the game close but ended up losing to the Suns, again. Steve Nash was killing, he had 23 assists in the game while Amare did his thing with over 20 point and rebounds. As much as people talk about the Suns being a much better team, a lot of credit for their success has to be given to the Lakers for their bad defense. I knew the Lakers were in trouble when I saw Kwame Brown lose his headband on offense and stay in the backcourt to put it on while Amare ran back on offense and scored.
I know the Suns will win the series but I do think the Lakers will win another game.

Miami Heat Go Down
April 29, 2007
The Chicago Bulls completed a first round sweep of the defending champion Miami Heat. I knew the Heat would lose but I did not think they would get swept. For the Heat it came down to Dwayne Wade and his health, he could not dominate or get to the line like he did last year. Also, the Heat just could not guard the Bulls.
The Heat is a team that does not have a young or talented roster. They have to let some guys go and bring in some better players to put around Wade and Shaq if they want to win.
The Bulls will meet the Pistons in the next round. It will be a good series and the Pistons will be the favorites but the Bulls can take the series if they have excellent outside shooting performances or if they can score more points in the paint.
Denver Not Playing Their Game
April 29, 2007
I picked te Nuggets to best the Spurs before the series started because they have so much offensive firepower but they really are not getting a chance to use it. The Nuggets are a team that likes to run and they are not getting that chance. They will be out of the playoffs in 2 more games if they can’t take control of the tempo.
Golden State Blows Out The Mavs
April 28, 2007
The Warriors handed it to the Mavericks yesterday in game 3 of their first round playoff series. The Warriors played aggressive defense and go to the hole at will. The Mavs defense was nowhere to be found as they were down by as much as 22 points. From watching the game I am kinda surprised at the Warriors ability to get to the rim. I knew Baron Davis and Monta Ellis could get to the rim at will but I did not expect guys like Stephen Jackson, Matt Barnes, and Jason Richadrson to slash to the basket as well as they have.
The Warriors are two games away from one of the biggest upsets in NBA history. Hopefully they don’t get to happy and cocky and blow the series. If the Mavs go out in the first round, the playoffs will get a lot more exciting because a lot of people picked Dallas to win it all, including me.
Draft Prospects Getting Smarter
April 28, 2007
It seems that people entering the NBA draft are getting a lot smarter this year as many underclassmen are entering but not hiring agents. This gives them the option to pull out of the draft if they don’t like where they will be picked. If they stay in without an agent and don’t get picked they can return to school and leave anytime to play pro basketball like Randolph Morris of Kentucky did earlier this year. He went undrafted two years ago and returned to school. A couple of weeks after his college season ended he signed a 2 year $1.6 million deal with the Knicks.
Now we have to hope that enough of these players are smart enough to actually go back to school.
Lakers Get A Win Versus The Suns
April 27, 2007
The Lakers played a good game yesterday at home against the Suns and were able to pull out a victory. The key to them when was defense and the fact that Kwame and Lamar stepped up their games. Kwame Brown played the best I ever sen him play. He had dunks on three straight possessions. It’s shocking to see him catch the ball, but to see him actually go up strong with it was even more shocking. He also knocked down three of five free throws too.
The Lakers played a good game but the should have won by more they started to give the game away some at the end of the game by shooting jumpers. They should have did more to get Lamar the ball in the post, especially when the Suns were closing in. The can tie the series with a win on Sunday.
Kobe You Should Have Signed With The Clippers In 2004
April 26, 2007
A few years back when Kobe Bryant was a free agent his final decision of whom he would sign with came down to the Clippers and the Lakers. I was hoping he would make the smart choice and sign with the Clippers. This was a situation with many positives including the fact that he would be in same city and play in the same building. The only negatives of going to the Clippers were the fact that he would make less money and he would probably feel like he was abandoning Lakers fans.
In the end he came back to the Lakers and passed up a chance to play with the Clippers. That team would have had a starting five of:
Chris Kaman
Elton Brand
Corey Maggette
Kobe Bryant
Shaun Livingston
It would have been great to see that team on the floor together, too bad we never will.
Celtic Looking For A Reason To Dump Telfair
April 25, 2007
It came out yesterday that the Celtics are severing ties with Sebastian Telfair after he was arrested for possesion of a gun. It seems a bit harsh and basically looks like they are trying to come up with any reason they can find to get rid of him.
I know they had high hopes for him when they traded for him but he did not produce. If they just benched him or cut him for no reason fans would get pissed, so now they have a reason to get rid of him. It is kinda sad to see a guy that had so much hype around him in high school be such a disappointment in the NBA. As far as a player I don’t think he will ever be that good but he should not be cut for no reason.
