Shaq, Penny, Kobe, and Wade

February 27, 2007

Over the past few years Shaq has gotten a large amount of the credit for the success his teams and players around him have had. In the past people asked if Penny could win without Shaq or if he would be good without Shaq. A lot of people wondered if Kobe would be good without Shaq and they are wondering if Kobe can win another championship without Shaq. Some people probably think Wade would be less of a player without Shaq getting so much attention.

Now the tables are turned. For the first time in his career people have to ask if Shaq can win and be dominant without a great guard to help him. With Wade out for at least six weeks, if not the whole season, Shaq has to push his team into the playoffs and try to push them to a title on his own. People talk about how dominant he is and what he does for other players but I think that the guards help him more than he helps them. The reason I say that is because they have to take it upon themselves to win close games while Shaq is on the bench. If will be interesting to see what he can do on his own and how the media covers it.

Ohio State Tops The Badgers

February 25, 2007

Ohio State and Wisconsin met for the second time this season and the Buckeyes pulled out the win this time. The first time they met in January the Badgers got the victory. The game was close and came down to a desperation shot by the Badgers which was blocked just as time expired.

Throughout most of the game Ohio State played a zone defense which seemed to confuse the Badgers defense. Arlando Tucker, a all-american canidate, only had 12 points and he had to work very hard for those. It is kinda amazing that Badgers stayed so close when they lost a good source of their offense. Brian Butch a 6 foot 11 inch center went down in the first half. From the looks of things he dislocated his elbow or broke it. It will be interesting to see how long he is out and how it affect the Badgers future.

The two meeting between the Badgers and Buckeyes have been very entertaining. It will be interesting if the meet up again in the Big Ten Tournament or the NCAA Tournament.

Will Wade Miss The Rest Of The Season?

February 24, 2007

As any basketball fan knows Dwayne Wade was injured a few days ago in a game against the Houston Rockets. He is in the process of considering season ending surgery. If he choses to have surgery it would be a sad end to a good statistical year for Wade. He is averaging 28.8 points and 7.9 assists per game. It would also be a big blow for the Miami Heat, they are already struggling to pick up wins and have barely had Shaq, Riley, and Wade on the court at the same time.

If Wade misses the rest of the season the Heat’s chances of winning another championship or even making the playoffs decrease dramatically. His injury should give a lot of teams like the Wizards and Bulls hope, although they shouldn’t get too happy because they still have to worry about the Pistons.

No Big Trades

February 23, 2007

After all the talk about Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Pau Gasol, Mike Bibby, and all these other guys being moved it was a little surprising to see all of them stay put. There were only two trades, neither of them are even worth mentioning. I can see why a lot of team didn’t make moves, especially the Bulls. A team like the Bulls wanted Pau Gasol, but they would rather have Garnett. They kept saying they did not want to give of Luol Deng but they have plenty of small forwards to replace him. I think they really want to hold out until the summer to see if they can get Garnett if not they will settle for Gasol.

Teams like Sacramento and New Jersey did not make deal because team were not giving up enough. I know the Nets wanted Bynum from the Lakers and the Lakers said hell no. Due to the lack of moment during the season, the Summer should be busy as far as trades, especially with so many disgruntled stars and such a deep draft.

Trade Deadline Is Tommorrow

February 21, 2007

The trade deadline is tommorrow and their are a lot of rumors, but will any of them come true. The Lakers and Nets are still talking about a deal for Kidd, although the Nets want Bynum and the Lakers refuse to trade him. That is a trade I would like to see happen.

I also read on espn.com that the Lakers also aquired Mike Bibby recently but the Kings owners stopped the deal.

You can read the lastest article on the trade rumors here at espn.com.

Barkley And Bavetta After Race Kiss

February 20, 2007

This was one of the funniest parts of the all-star game, Barkley getting kissed on the lips by Dick Bavetta after the race.

West Beats The East, Kobe Wins MVP

February 19, 2007

I was right on one of my predictions for the all-star game, the Wast won. I was pretty close on my prediction for the MVP, Carmelo was probaly the 3rd canidate for MVP behind Kobe and Amare. The game had a nice amount of dunks and good plays. I like the part when Shaq brought the ball up the court. I would have like to see him shoot a couple of threes, that would have been funny.

Kobe had 3 dunks that were the same, but on that last one he jump high as hell. Lebron’s reverse was sick so was Dwight Howard putback in the first quarter. It was a decent game but it like everything associated with all-star weekend is starting to get boring just because it is the same thing with same people every year. I think the only way to enjoy an all-star game is in person because once you’ve watched it once on tv it seems like deja vu.

My All-Star MVP Prediction

February 18, 2007

The All-Star game will be on in less than a hour so I am going to go ahead and put my MVP prediction out there. I think the West will win and I think the MVP will be………..Carmelo Anthony. After getting dissed by the coaches I know he wants to play well. I just hope he gets enough minutes.

Highlights Of All-Star Friday And Saturday

February 18, 2007

On Friday a bunch celebrities went out and embarrased themselves for the fans. After that the rookie vs. sophmore game started and the sophmore blew the rookies out. The sophmores started hard with Deron Williams doing whatever he wanted. He had several nice passed to David Lee for layups and dunks. Chris Paul ended the game throwing assist after assist to Monta Ellis, one of my favorite players.

In the end the MVP race only came down to three guys Paul, Ellis, and Lee. Lee took it home because of his accuracy shooting along with his 11 rebounds.

On Saturday the events were kinda lame. My dunk contest prediction Gerald Wallace won but I was only really impressed with 2 of his dunks. The first one was nice because of how he cocked it to the side. His last one was nice because of where he took of from.

I think Dwight Howard got screwed. To me he had the best dunk of the night with the sticker dunk and should have gotten a 50. At fist I was thinking that was weak, but when I saw the stickerI was like damn. He first dunk was also solid because of where he jumped from.

Here is the sticker dunk if you have not seen it.
