West Versus East
November 29, 2006
It is very easy to see from looking at the standings that the Western conference is much, much better than the Eastern conference. This is most likely because a majority of the best big men in the NBA are in the West.
A lot of teams in the West seem to have gotten very lucky in the draft. KG was a risk because he came out of high school. Zach Randolph was a risk because he only played a year of college. The Spurs got lucky when David Robinson missed a whole year and they ended up with Tim Duncan.
Not to mention that the East has traded away and lost a lot of decent big men through free agency over the last few years. Tyson Chandler was traded to New Orleans for a nearly 40 year-old P.J. Brown. Elton Brand was traded to the Clippers a few years back. Kenyon Martin got shipped away to Denver for nothing. The Cavs lost Carlos Boozer in free agency when they tried to low ball him.
The only way the NBA can get some balance is if Eastern conference teams stop trading big men for small players, and if they stop making poor management decisions.
Wizards Preview
November 26, 2006
The Wizards have 3 solid scorer in Arenas, Butler, and Jamison but they don’t have much upfront, and they don’t play good defense. This team should make the playoffs this season in a weak Eastern conference but they need to do more to keep Arenas happy. He wants to win and they need better players to do that.

Utah Jazz Preview
November 25, 2006
This team is real solid and they are off to a 12 and 1 start. The thing a lot of people are saying is they are deep but can Deron and Boozer do what they are doing for an entire season. The thing I say is that Deron and Boozer can do what they are doing for a whole season but I don’t think their bench can.
Trying to depend on CJ Miles and Paul Milsap for a whole season is going to be hard. Hopefully their playing well without Kirilenko will give them the confidence to keep playing like they are.

My Early All Star Picks
November 23, 2006
I usually don’t vote for my all-stars until later in the season but if I were to vote right now here are the guys I would pick.
West:
Yao Ming- He is the best center in the NBA. In the Western conference he doesn’t have much competition upfront in voting except for Marcus Camby.
Carlos Boozer- This guy is averaging a double-double and he is a beast. A lot of people are questioning if he can do what he is doing for a whole season and I think he can as long as he is healthy.
Tim Duncan- He is not a flashy player but he gets it done. He already has three rings and may get another one this year.
Kobe Bryant- The Lakers are 8-3 and have a lot of people surprised because so many people are getting involved. The big question is can it go all season.
Deron Williams- He had a good rookie year but was held back a bit by Jerry Sloan. This year he has the green light and he is showing everyone what he can do.
East:
Dwight Howard- This guy is getting better and better each year he probably won’t get voted in over Shaq but he deserves to.
Lebron James- Do I have to say anything?
Jermaine Oneal- He has been consistent over the last few years. The Pacers probably missed their chance at a title but he is still a solid player.
Wade- The team is losing but Wade is doing his best, its not his fault Pat Riley didn’t make many roster changes.
Iverson- He is still not slowing down. He is losing a lot more but he puts everything into trying to get a victory.
I tried to base my choices on the people that were winning which is why you see Boozer, Deron Williams, and Dwight Howard instead of Garnett, Nash, and Shaq.
JR Smith Goes Off
November 22, 2006
J Smith went off against the Chicago Bulls yesterday for 36 points. If you remember the Bulls picked up JR Smith in the Tyson Chandler trade but they quickly traded him to the Nuggets. His explosive game included 5 three pointers.
He is really starting to show people what he can do in this league with consistent minutes. I am still confused as to why New Orleans or the Bulls would trade him but its their loss and the Nuggets gain.
Dajuan Wagner’s Contract Gets Bought Out
November 20, 2006
The Warriors bought out Dajuan Wagners contract yesterday. I was one of the people that was happy to see him comeback but it was short lived. He only played in one of the Warriors first few games. From what I have read his condition got worse after the season started and Don Nelson didn’t really want him around.
Before he trys to comeback again he better make sure he is healthy because you only get so many chances in the NBA.
Raptors Preview
November 18, 2006
The Toronto Raptors added a few pieces this summer but nothing that is dramatic enough to lead them to the playoffs. They traded for TJ Ford, signed Fred Jones, and picked up a big guy in the draft.
This team has Bosh as a go to guy and they are playing to up the tempo this year but until they get some better players in that starting 5 they won’t go anywhere.
Show Some Better Games
November 17, 2006
I always look forward to the NBA season until I realize that all of the games they show on cable suck. The other night they had the Kings playing the Grizziles, tonight they had the Pistons playing the Wizards. I don’t mind the Wizards but I hate the Pistons, they are a very boring team to watch.
It they keep showing games like this then I may have to stop being cheap and get NBA League Pass. Luckily they have the Lakers and Bulls playing on Sunday night hopefully that is a sign of things to come.
