Knicks Preview
October 31, 2006
The Knicks have some decent talent but they don’t know how to put together a consistent lineup and they don’t play good defense. Isiah Thomas is on the hotseat. If he doesn’t improve the team he is gone. I think they will win more games but they won’t make the playoffs.
The biggest key is for them to get points from their frontcourt players. Channing Frye can give them points but can Eddy Curry do the same? They also have to play defense as a team. If one guy gets beat plays like Curry and Frye should step up to block shots and take charges rather than commit stupid fouls.
In the backcourt Marbury and Francis need to stop with the And 1 dribbling and learn when to shot and when to distribute the ball. This team doesn’t suck it is just unorganized. With some organization they can win 40 games.
New Orleans Hornets Preview
October 30, 2006
In my opinion this team made a lot of mistakes in the offseason as far as trades and free agent signings. The traded JR Smith a person that I feel will be a very good player in the near future for Tyson Chandler. Chandler can dunk and block shots but he has no post game, he drops a lot of passes, and worst of all he has no confidence. I don’t care how hard he works to improve, if he can’t get on the court and play with confidence he will never be a good player.
The Hornets also brought in Peja a shooter that I think they over paid for. He does not fit the style of play that Chris Paul plays with. Paul likes to run, Peja won’t be able to keep up. The could have traded for a guy like Travis Denier and saved a lot of money. They need quick athletic players to play major minutes and shooters to play part-time minutes. They don’t need a guy like Peja playing 40 minutes a game.
Even though some of their trades and free agent signing sucked they had a solid draft. They drafted to big men that match up well with Paul’s style of play. This team will fight hard to make the playoffs but I don’t think they will make it. Their frontcourt is too young and they will get abused throughout the season.
New Jersey Nets Preview
October 29, 2006
The Nets are a very good team and they made some upgrades this offseason by adding Josh Boone, Marcus Williams, and Jay Williams. Those three players along with Kristic improving in the post will make the Nets a dangerous team.
The biggest thing they need is offense in the post and off the bench. Time will tell if they can actually get those two things.
Also be on the watch for potential Vince Carter trades. He is an upcoming free agent and if the Nets don’t think they can resign him they may trade him before the February deadline. With other stars like Iverson and KG on the block if they were to make a trade it is very likely they would get something good in return.
Timberwolves Preview
October 29, 2006
The Wolves have gotten worse year after year but they do have Kevin Garnett, who always plays hard. He has been fighting hard to get the team back to where it was a few years ago when Sprewell and Cassell were there. Now his supporting cast includes Troy Hudson, Randy Foye, Eddie Griffith and Mike James. Without any bench or help upfront this team will lose many games and fail to make the playoffs.
Also this year a lot of people are predicting that Garnett will finally get fed up and demand a trade. He is 30 years old and we all know he wants to get a ring before he retires.
NBA League Pass Preview
October 28, 2006
As usual NBA League Pass will have a preview the first 7 days of the season. You can also catch the last few preseason games on league pass before the season starts. Just wanted to remind you guys so you wouldn’t forget.
Milwaukee Bucks Preview
October 27, 2006
The Bucks got better by getting rid of Magloire, Joe Smith, Kukoc, and TJ Ford. Getting rid of those players has made room for Charlie V. and Ruben Paterson. It also allows Bogut and Mo Williams to get more minutes.
A lot of people are saying the Bucks will be in the same boat this year as they were last year, fighting to make the playoffs. People are saying that having Bogut and Simmons out will hurt them. Those two players won’t miss much time, only the first month of the season so the Bucks can easily get back on track if they get off to a slow start.
The reason I feel they are much better is because they have offense upfront for the first time since they have Vin Baker. Last year Bogut could have gave them more in the post but they never gave him the ball. Lets hope they get him and Charlie V the ball. That will free up shooters like Charlie Bell, Williams, and Redd. This team could win about 48 games but they have to play defense. They will make the playoffs no doubt about it.
Hinrich Not Close To A Deal
October 27, 2006
Kirk Hinrich has been playing well since he has been in the league. A lot of the players from the 03 draft have been inked to extensions, Hinrich is one that is waiting. A lot of team are interested in Hinrich including the Milwaukee Bucks. I guess we will have to see what happens.
Miami Heat Preview
October 25, 2006
The Heat were given the championship last year and a lot of people think they can repeat again this year. I am not one of them. They have good players but the team just seems to be old. They have not done much to improve in the offseason while a lot of other teams in the East have. The Bulls, Pistons, Cavs, and Bucks all have made enough improvements to knock out the Heat. The Bucks and Cavs have the offense but they need to get their defense right to knock off the Heat. The Pistons and Bulls have defense and offense plus they are both very deep.
Even if the Heat can get to the finals they will have to meet the Suns, Spurs, or Mavs. They could beat the Suns but they can’t do anything with the Spurs or Mavs unless the refs help them. Only way I see this team winning another championship is if Shaq starts the season off looking thin and buff like he was in his 20s. If he comes back looking fat and slow like he was last year they won’t win anything.
Memphis Grizzlies Preview
October 24, 2006
The Grizzles will be without Gasol for a few weeks but that is okay because it will give some of their young players like Kyle Lowry and Rudy Gay to step up and play big with out the start there. Once Gasol comes back that will make the whole team better.
I expect Mike Miller to play big for the season. He should average at least 18 per game if you ask me. On paper this team is horrible but they seem to smake the playoffs. I don’t see that happening this year unless they get player like Warrick and Stromile Swift to play big upfront.
